Dordt alumni named to Christian Reformed Church’s 40 Under 40 list

July 18, 2014

The Christian Reformed Church’s (CRC) Young Adult Leadership Taskforce (YALT) has named three Dordt College alumni to their new 40 Under 40 list, a compilation of prominent young leaders doing outstanding work within and beyond their churches.

Husband and wife Aaron (’99) and Nicole (’99) Baart were both honored. Aaron was recognized for his involvement with Dordt College where he is one of the youngest chaplains in the college’s history. YALT called Aaron a “well-respected leader who’s brought vitality to campus ministries at Dordt.”

Nicole was recognized for her writing and especially for her co-authorship of the New York Times best-selling book The Snow Angel. Together, Aaron and Nicole began One Body One Hope, a non-profit organization connecting churches with orphanages in Liberia.

Mark Hilbelink (’06), lead pastor of Sunrise Community Church in Austin, Texas, and YALT leader, was chosen because of his work in transforming his congregation and helping members focus on socioeconomic diversity.

Participants were chosen by the number of votes they received from nominators and based on how well they represented the mission and movement of YALT. The CRC explains that the “exaltation for the work of each of these individuals goes to God for his gracious use of people and churches across North America and around the world.”

Other Dordt College graduates who also received special recognition include Eric Dirksen (’01), Amy Vander Vliet (’06), and Kris Van Engen (’98).
