All-GPAC Softball Announced

(Monday, May 5; Sioux Center, Iowa) Five Dordt College softball players earned Great Plains Athletic Conference honors for the recently completed season in voting done by the conference coaches.
Ashton Beaird (Junior; Rapid City, South Dakota), Erica White (Junior; Johnston, Iowa), Bethany Dykstra (Senior; Grandville, Michigan), Samantha Dunn (Freshman; Sunburg, Minnesota) and Andrea Pierce (Freshman; Denver, Colorado) earned a variety of honors.
Beaird claimed first-team honors after batting a team high .394 this season with 52 hits, 11 doubles, two triples and nine homeruns. Beaird knocked in 34 runs and scored 36 runs while starting all 44 games for the Defenders. She played both catcher and shortstop regularly for the Defenders and threw out seven would be basestealers. Beaird is already the career homerun leader at Dordt with 22 and she has 118 career hits.
White, Dykstra and Dunn all claimed second-team accolades.
White batted .326 with 46 hits and a team high 18 doubles while clubbing eight homeruns and her 37 runs batted in led the team.
Dykstra batted .261 this season while being used mostly as a designated player. She had three homeruns with 36 hits and belted six doubles with 18 runs batted in. Dykstra graduates Dordt College with 119 career hits and 11 career homeruns and she knocked in 62 runs over the course of her career.
Dunn earns the honor after having an impactful freshman campaign. She was 9-4 on the mound in 18 total appearances and pitched 82 2/3 innings while striking out 32. Dunn played shortstop when she wasn’t pitching and had a .319 batting average with 37 hits, 11 doubles, three triples and five homeruns while knocking in 25 runs.
Pierce played centerfield for the Defenders and earned honorable mention. She played in all 44 games and did not have an error in 70 chances. Pierce batted .236 with 25 hits, two triples and 11 runs scored and stole eight bases.
