GPAC #3 Monday For Dordt Men

Meet… GPAC Qualifier #3 will be held on Monday, April 21 in Hastings, Nebraska at Lochland.  This is the third of the four GPAC Qualifier events.

Participants… All 11 GPAC members field  men’s golf teams and are participating in the event which comprises the GPAC Championship.

Last Time Out… Dordt and Northwestern golfed in a match play event on Wednesday, April 16.  Northwestern prevailed 10.5-6.5 in the annual event dubbed the NORDOR Cup. 

Dordt also competed in the Northwestern Invite on Tuesday, April 8 at Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City, Iowa.
The Defenders carded a 315 and was just two strokes out of fifth and 11 out of fourth place.

Rees Beaver led the way with a 77 and Madison Moss and Micah Roos each had a 79. Beaver placed 13th out of 54 golfers. Derek Fox and Trey Hugen had an 80 and 81 respectively to conclude the Dordt scoring.

Morningside won the event with a 295 and was led by Matt Young’s 69. Hastings was second with a 300.
Landsmeer was set up for par 71 and 6.456 yards.

Last Time On This Course… Dordt last golfed Lochland for GPAC #2 in 2011 when the Defenders finished  eighth place for the day with a 334 at Lochland Golf Course in Hastings, Nebraska.

Played under progressively worsening conditions with wind gusts of over 40 miles per hour, the Defenders were led by Kevin Fopma's 80 while Ryan Kamp and Jon Vogel each had 84's. Madison Moss was the final score kept for Dordt with an 86. Fopma battled into a tie for 14th for the day.

Doane shot a 307 to take the low score for the second round of the event and Ryan Harris carded a low score of 73 for the Tigers.

GPAC Qualifier History… The Dordt College Defenders recorded a 347 at GPAC Qualifier #2 in wet, cold and windy conditions Monday, October 14, 2013 at Firethorn Golf Course in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The Defenders finished tenth and were four shots out of seventh place. Dordt was led by Connor Rothert's 83 and Jon Holwerda had an 85. Madison Moss and Trey Hugen completed the Dordt foursome for scoring with an 89 and 90 respectively. Rothert is currently tied for 15th place with a two-round total of 161. Rothert's Monday score was good for 18th and Holwerda's put him in 27th.

Northwestern won the team title with a 317 and Doane was second with a 321. Hastings's Sean Backer shot a 74 to claim medialist honors on the par-71 course that was set up for 7,025 yards. Northwestern's Ryan Kiewit and Neil Malenke tied for second at 76.

The Lineup… Dordt’s lineup will likely include Nathan Middel with a season average of 81 through ten rounds and he has six sub-80 rounds and a low of 73 at the Siouxland Invite.  Trey Hugen has an 81.8 average through 11 rounds and has a pair of 78s for season lows.  Derek Fox’s average is 81.1 through eight rounds and has a low of 73 recorded at the Siouxland Invite.  Rees Beaver has an 82.9 season average in eight rounds and Matt Moen has an 84.3 in four rounds of competition and recorded a 78 at the Northwestern Spring Invite.

After This… Dordt will compete in the Lancer Invite on Thursday, April 24 in preparation for the season ending GPAC #4 on Monday, April 28.
