Dordt Golf At Northwestern Tuesday

Meet… Dordt College is scheduled to compete in the Northwestern Spring Invite on Tuesday, April 8 starting at noon.  The event will be a single day, 18-hole competition.

Participants… Northwestern, Morningside, Briar Cliff, Hastings, Midland, Mount Marty and Dordt will compete in the annual event.

Last Time Out… The Dordt College men's golf team opened the 2014 portion of its schedule with a third place finish in the seven team field at the Morningside/Briar Cliff Invite at Whispering Creek in Sioux City, Iowa on Monday, March 31. The event was originally scheduled to be played over two days and 36 holes but was reduced to a single day event because of predicted poor weather conditions.

Derek Fox shot an 81 to lead the Defender effort on the par-72, 6,600 yard set up. Nathan Middel was at an 84 and Trey Hugen carded an 85 while Rees Beaver completed the Dordt scoring. Fox's total was good for 8th place in the 36 man field.

Morningside nipped Northwestern for the top spot 309-301 with Neil Malenke (Northwestern) taking medalist honors with a 70, beating his nearest competitor by three strokes.

Last Time On This Course… The Dordt College Defender men's golf team stands second after day one of the Siouxland Invite played at Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City, Iowa on Thursday, September 5, 2013. Day two of the event was played on Friday, September 6 at The Ridge in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Dordt carded a 293 on the par-71, 6,405 yard layout, trailing the leader Northwestern by four strokes after the first day's play.

The Defenders were led by Madison Moss with a 71, putting him in a tie for fourth place overall. Derek Fox and Connor Rothert each had a 73 and Rees Beaver took a 76 in his first action of the season.

Ryan Kiewit had the low score with a 69 for Northwestern and his teammates Neil Malenke and Kyle Stanek were tied for second, a stroke under par and a stroke in front of Moss.

Dordt fielded two other teams that were in 11th and 15th respectively with a 319 and 335.

At This Event… Dordt College sent three teams to the Northwestern Spring Golf Invite on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Landsmeer Golf in Orange City, Iowa. The Defenders placed fifth with their varsity team while two other units were eighth and ninth respectively.

Madison Moss and Sam Voss each shot 75s to go low for the Defenders and were four over par and Trey Hugen, golfing for the Dordt White team also shot a 75. Derek Fox and Zach Kooiker each had an 82 and tied for 31st overall while the golfers who shot 75 were tied for 14th in the 51 golfer field.

Northwestern won the meet with a 282 and was led by medalist Michael Clark with a 67 and Neil Malenke shot a 68.
Landsmeer measured 6,456 yards for the event and was set up for par-71.

The Lineup… Dordt has two players with sub-80 averages with Connor Rothert carding an average of 78.8 in eight rounds.  Madison Moss has a 79.2 average and has played nine rounds this year.  Micah Roos is hovering right around the 80 average with an 80.3 in six rounds while Nate Middel and Derek Fox is at 81.3  and Trey Hugen is at 82.3.

After This… Dordt and Northwestern are scheduled for a match play event on Wednesday, April 16 at The Ridge in Sioux Center, Iowa.
