Dordt Softball At Omaha Wednesday

GAMETIME…Dordt College will travel to the College of Saint Mary in Omaha, Nebraska for a pair of games on Wednesday, March 19.  The doubleheader begins at 2:00.

SCOUTING REPORT… The Flames are 2-6 after playing eight games in Tucson, Arizona, March 10-14.  The wins for the College of Saint Mary are over Purdue University-North Central and Dakota Wesleyan.  The Flames also had two losses by one run each to Jamestown and Peru State.

The Flames are batting .302 as a team and have been outscored 60-33 this season.  Mariah Gibson, Jessica Gargano and Jamie Zimmerer each have a team high ten hits.  Gibson and Gargano each have two doubles and Gibson has two homeruns with a team high nine runs batted in.  Caitlin Rodenburg has three doubles and Heather McCoy has two stolen bases—tops on the team.

The Flames have a team earned run average of 5.53.  Leah Kipfer is 2-1 with a 3.50 earned run average and has 18 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched.  Jamie Zimmerer is 0-3 with a 5.42 earned run average in 10 1/3 innings.

DEFENDER NOTES… Dordt College is 2-12 this season with wins over Arizona Christian and Valley City State.

The Defenders have a team batting average of .241 and have been outscored 102-39 and outhit 118-84.  Sidney Larson has a .320 batting average and has eight hits with two doubles.  Kassidy Van Voorst has a team high 14 hits and bats .311 and Ashton Beaird’s batting average is .310 with five doubles, a homerun and three runs batted in. Erica White has 11 hits with four doubles, two homeruns and ten runs batted in.  Van Voorst has eight stolen bases and Erica White five while Selena Rinehart has four.  The Defenders have stolen 28 bases in 32 attempts.

Sidney Larsen has pitched 40 2/3 innings and has 20 strikeouts and has given up 26 earned runs.  Haley Fligge and Samantha Dunn have worked 29 2/3 innings and 13 1/3 innings respectively.

LAST TIME…Kassidy Van Voorst had two hits and scored two runs in a 10-0 win over Valley City State last weekend.  Ashton Beaird also had two hits as Dordt outhit the Vikings 7-2 in Dordt’s last game in Tucson, Arizona.

The College of Saint Mary lost to Jamestown 2-1, allowing one run each in the sixth and seventh innings.  The Flames outhit the Jimmies 8-6 and Mariah Gibson had three hits and one run batted in and Jessica Gargano had two hits.  Jamie Zimmerer took the loss while strikeout four and walking two and allowed two earned runs.  The winning run was scored in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs for Jamestown.

THE SERIES…Dordt leads the series with the Flames 8-6 and the Defenders swept the doubleheader last season.  Dordt won game one 10-1 with Beaird and Haley Huisman each had two hits with Beaird knocking in five runs and Huisman three.  Larsen surrendered six hits while securing the win and struck out four.  Mariah Gibson took the loss while giving up nine earned runs with three strikeouts.

Game two was a 6-2 Dordt win as Larsen scattered 11 hits in securing the win.  Three difference Defenders had one hit each a one run batted in each and the Defender capitalized on three Flames’ errors.

NEXT…The College of Saint Mary will host Northwestern on March 20 and Presentation on Saturday, March 22.

Dordt College will travel to Buena Vista in Storm Lake, Iowa on Thursday, March 20.  The Defenders’ games with Dakota State on Saturday, March 22 have been postponed to Friday, March 28.  Dordt is scheduled to travel to Morningside on Tuesday, March 25.
