Blades Host Pair of Games with Creighton

January 23, 2014

The games…the Dordt Blades will compete on their home ice for the first time in almost nine weeks as they host the Creighton Jays for a pair of games this Friday and Saturday in the Vernon Arena.  Game time for Friday, January 24 is 7:30 pm and the puck will drop at 4:15 pm on Saturday, January 25.

The Opponent…the Creighton Jays are not associated with a conference and are coming off a ten week break, having played their most recent game on November 16.  The Jays enter this weekend with a 1-9 overall mark and they have not picked up a win on the road yet this season (0-4).  The lone victory for the Jays game back on October 4 when Creighton buried a goal in overtime to pick up a thrilling  4-3 win over the University of Nebraska.

Creighton has scored 30 goals this season and have been scored on 82 times.  Three different players have eight points for the Jays: Ben Czarnecki (3 goals, five assists), Connor Jurgensen (2G, 6A) and Owen Kane (2G, 6A).  Blake DeJong tops the team in the goal scoring department with five.

Lee Noel and Parker Revier have shared the netminding duties for Creighton with Noel posting a goals against average of 7.98 with a .710 save percentage while Parker Revier has a 8.20 GAA and a .720 save percentage.  Lee Noel had the lone win in goal for the Jays.

The Blades…are 4-16 on the season and 1-7 in MACHA play and skate on their home sheet for the first time since November 23.  Dordt College is 1-8 in the Vernon Arena this year and the Blades have 39 goals for with 97 goals against.

Nic Enerson leads the Blades with twelve points, posting a team-high nine goals to go along with three helpers.  Eric Huitsing has eleven points with seven goals and four assists while Dylan Van Dyk has ten points with three goals and a team-leading seven assists.

Riley Braun is 3-15 in goal for the Blades with a 5.00 goals against average and a .890 save percentage.  Braun has faced 777 shots this season in 1056 minutes between the pipes.

History…the two schools have played 17 times since 2005 with the Blades enjoying a 12-5 advantage over the Jays and the last time the two teams were supposed to compete (January 14, 2012) Dordt was credited with a 1-0 forfeit win as the Jays were unable to provide a netminder for the contest. The previous night the Blades fell to Creighton 4-3 in Sioux Center.

Last time out…the Blades traveled to Springdale, Arkansas last weekend for a pair of games with Arkansas.  The Blades were no match for the Razorbacks, who sit atop the Pacific Region rankings, as Dordt fell in both games, 8-0 and 10-1.
Creighton’s last two outings were also  lopsided affairs as they were drubbed 9-2 and 12-2 by the Colorado School of Mines.

Next up…the Blades will finish off their regular season with two home games against the University of Nebraska on January 31 and February 1 with Friday’s game beginning at 7:30 pm and the Saturday game is scheduled to start at 4:15 pm.
