Five Soccer Players Named Scholar-Athletes

(Monday, December 9; Sioux Center, Iowa) Five Dordt College women’s soccer team members have earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2013 season.

All five athletes are repeat honorees.  Shantelle Gritters (Senior; Hull, Iowa), Katie Heynen (Senior; Sheldon, Iowa), Kolette Heynen (Senior; Boyden, Iowa), Katie Kortman (Senior; Grandville, Michigan) and Kristin Scholten (Senior; Inwood, Iowa) are on the list of 511 women’s soccer players honored by the NAIA.

Gritters and Kolette Heynen are both Education majors while Katie Heynen is a Nursing major.  Scholten is a Business Administration major and Kortman is majoring in Biology.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.
