Dordt Golf In Mitchell To Close September Play

Meet… Both the Dordt College women’s and men’s golf teams will compete in the Palace City Classic this Friday and Saturday, September 27 and 28.

Participants… The women’s field will include competitors from Northwestern, Mount Marty, Briar Cliff, Dakota Wesleyan, Chadron State, Jamestown and Dordt College.  The men’s field has Hastings, Dakota Wesleyan, South Dakota School of Mines, Valley City, Jamestown, Central Community, Northeast Community and Dordt College.

Last Time Out… Dordt College finished fifth at the Briar Cliff Women's Golf Invite on Saturday, September 14 after carding a 372 on the par-70, 5,821 yards Whispering Creek Golf Course.

Renae Visser shot an 87 to place sixth overall and Kim Brumfield had a 92 for 17th in the 47 golfer field. Raeann De Rousse and Kristin Stoffels completed the Dordt scoring with a 95 and 98.

Northwestern won the event with a 343 and was paced by Taylor Malenke's 83 for medalist honors.

The Dordt College Defender men's golf team shot a 317 in GPAC #1 on Thursday morning and afternoon at Green Valley Golf Course in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Defenders finished ninth on a day where tenth place and fifth place were separated by just ten strokes. Briar Cliff was just in front of the Defenders with a 316 and Dakota Wesleyan shot a 312 for seventh place.

Madison Moss had a 76 on the par 72, 7,061 yard course, and is in 15th after the first round. Connor Rothert shot a 78 and is in 24th place. Jon Holwerda had an 81 while Derek Fox and Nathan Middel scored 82s on a day where the medalists, Renen Sahr (Midland) and Jonas Christensen (Doane), shot a pair of 69s.

Midland had a 299 for first place, narrowly sliding by Northwestern and Nebraska Wesleyan as each team carded a 301.

Last Time On This Course… Dordt College women's golf finished seventh in the eight team field at the Palace City Classic held Friday and Saturday, September 21 and 22, 2012 in Mitchell, South Dakota.

Dordt had a two day total of 747, recording a 367 on Saturday to go with a 380 on Friday. Renae Visser finished 12th overall with a 174 and Reanne DeRouse carded a 174.

Dakota Wesleyan overcame a four stroke day one deficit to win the event with a 675 and Northwestern was second with a 691. Emma Wynja won the event with a 163--taking the honor by virtue of a tiebreaker with Emily Elliott of Iowa Central.

The course on Saturday was set up for par-72 and was 6,249 in length.

Dordt College's Ryan Kamp shot a two day total of 144 at the 2011 Dakota Wesleyan Palace City Invite, placing first overall and leading the Defenders to an eighth place finish at the two day event.

Brandon McCracken carded a 151 to finish eight overall with Derek Fox and Madison Moss completing the scoring with a 167 and 169 respectively.

The second round of play was held at Wild Oak Golf Club in Mitchell, South Dakota with par set at 72 and it was 6739 yards in length. Morningside won the team title with 599 while Northwestern was second with a two day total of 604.

The Lineup… The Dordt women are led by Renae Visser’s 86.5 average in four rounds of play while Kristin Stoffels is at 96.8 in four rounds and Raeann De Rousse is averaging 96.0 in three rounds.  Kim Brumfield’s average is a 93.8 in four rounds of play.

Dordt’s lineup this weekend will feature Trey Hugen, Nate Middel, Madison Moss, Micah Roos and Connor Rothert.  Hugen is averaging 81.3 in four rounds and Middel’s average is 78.3 in four rounds of play as well.  Moss has the low average for the Defenders at 75.3 and Rothert is right behind with a 76.3.  Roos has golfed in three rounds of action this fall and has an average of 79.0.

After This… The Defender women will compete at GPAC #2 to conclude the fall portion of the schedule on Wednesday, October 2.

The men will golf at the Morningside Invite on Tuesday, October 8 before concluding the fall season at GPAC #2 in Lincoln, Nebraska on Monday, October 14.
