Dordt Soccer Concludes Homestand Saturday

GAMETIME… Dordt College will host a pair of non-conference games on Saturday, September 14 against Friends (Kansas). The women’s game starts at 1:00 with the men to follow at about 3:15. SCOUTING REPORT…The Friends Falcons women’s team is 3-2 this season and has two wins in a row after suffering two games in a row to Bacone and William Penn. Friends will play Concordia on Friday, September 13 before making its way to Sioux Center for the games with Dordt.
Friends has outscored opponents by a 10-9 margin but have been outshot on goal 48-35 and outshot total 80-62. Emma Cuda has scored three goals with two assists while three other players, Stephanie House, Maddie Behney and Bella McCorvey, have two goals a piece. Haley Brennaman has two assists. Shea Poynter has played 352 minutes and has allowed seven goals and has made 36 saves. Poynter’s goals allowed per-90 minutes played average is 1.78.
The Friends men are 2-3 and have lost three games in a row to William Penn, Midland and Oklahoma Science and Arts. Friends has been outscored 15-12 and outshot on goal 34-29.
Andreas Tschongarow has three goals and an assist while Daniel Littler, Victor Corigliano and Lucas Coelho have two goals each. Rodrigo Barbosa has two assists. Jack Mathews has allowed ten goals in 389 minutes and has 14 saves with a 2.31 goals allowed per-90 minutes played average.
DORDT COLLEGE NOTES… The Defender women are 0-4 this season and have lost contests to Graceland, John Brown, Columbia and the College of Saint Mary. The Defenders have surrendered 23 goals.
Katie Kortman has played 225 minutes in goal and has made 35 saves.
The Defenders are 0-5 this season and have been outscored 17-6 this season.
Brady Van Holland has scored three goals with an assist. Jon Brinkerhoff has 22 saves and has allowed 13 goals in 357 minutes played.
THE SERIES… Dordt leads the series 2-0 in women’s play with the last meeting coming in 2004 when the Defenders beat the Falcons 2-0 in the Region IV semifinals. Dordt and Friends have never played in men’s soccer.
LAST TIME… The Friends women beat Oklahoma Science and Arts 1-0 as Meagan Beals scored her first goal of the season in the 85th minute to give the Falcons the win. Friends was outshot 16-9 overall and 8-5 on goal.
The Defender women lost to the College of Saint Mary 5-0 on Tuesday afternoon. Kortman had 13 saves in 90 minutes of play . The Flames scored three goals in the first 20 minutes of play.
The Friends men lost to Oklahoma Science and Arts 7-0 after getting outshot 13-4 on goal. Science and Arts scored three goal in less than two minutes late in the first half and tacked on another goal in the final minute of the half for a 4-0 lead.
Graceland beat Dordt 4-2 on Tuesday afternoon after outshooting the Defenders on goal 9-5. Dordt scored in the 8th minute when Brady Van Holland found the net but the visitors got two before halftime to send it to halftime 2-1. Graceland scored another early in the second half but Dordt’s Eric Grootenboer scored off an assist by Brady Van Holland in the 70th minute to narrow the score to 3-2. Graceland put the game away with a goal in the 87th minute. Jon Brinkerhoff made five saves in goal for the Defenders.
NEXT UP…… Friends will face Mid-America Christian on Tuesday, September 18 in its next outings. The Dordt women will travel to Buena Vista on Tuesday, September 17 and both Dordt teams travel to Jamestown on September 21.
