All-GPAC Baseball Honors Announced

(Wednesday, May 8; Sioux Center, Iowa)  Four Dordt College Defender baseball players earned post-season honors in voting done by the Great Plains Athletic Conference coaches at the conclusion of the season.

Heading the list is Nathan Fraley (Junior; Boca Raton, Florida),  a second-team selection.  Fraley started in centerfield for the Defenders all season and had a .292 batting average with 31 hits, six doubles, two homeruns and ten runs batted in with a team high 14 stolen bases.

Jon Holwerda (Junior; Newton, Iowa), Ben Van Kekerix (Junior; Sheldon, Iowa) and Mark Nyhoff (Senior; Centennial, Colorado) all claimed honorable mention honors.

Holwerda batted .314 with 27 hits, four doubles and nine runs batted in.  Van Kekerix posted a 3-4 record with 4.72 earned run average in 40 innings pitched with 35 strikeouts and ten bases on balls.  Opponents had a .239 batting average against Van Kekerix.

Mark Nyhoff posted a 3.95 earned run average in six decisions and worked 41 innings with 32 strikeouts.  Opponents had a .290 batting average against Nyhoff.
