Dordt Softball To Face Midland Saturday

GAMETIME… Dordt will travel to Fremont, Nebraska on Saturday, April 13 to face Midland in doubleheader action starting at 2:00.  The games were originally scheduled to be played in Sioux Center but were moved due to unplayable field conditions.   Results of the games can be found at www.dordt.edu/athletics when complete and also at https://twitter.com/dcathletics.

SCOUTING REPORT… Midland is 2-4 in the GPAC and 8-17 overall and have split their last four contests.  The Warriors are coming off a pair of losses to Morningside which happened on April 7 one day after beating Mount Marty in a pair.

Midland’s Nicole Andrews has a .369 batting average to lead the Warriors and Keith Kramme’s team is batting .265 as a team.  Kayla Ritzdorf has 26 hits and a .347 batting average and has scored 12 runs and swiped five bases. 

Sammy Hislop is 6-6 on the mound with a 2.45 earned run average and she has pitched 74 innings with 74 strikeouts.  Sarah Leimser is 2-6 with a 4.24 earned run average and she has pitched 64 innings.

DEFENDER NOTES… Dordt is 6-19 overall and 2-6 in the GPAC.  The Defenders are looking to snap a four game losing skid after sweeps at the hands of Hastings and Northwestern.

Ashton Beaird is batting .288 with four homeruns and 15 runs batted in to go with 14 runs scored and six doubles—all of those are tops in the respective categories.  Brittany Kooiker is batting .246 and has 16 hits with nine runs batted in and Ashley Van Kooten has a .243 batting average to go with three homeruns and 14 runs batted in.

Sidney Larsen has carried the bulk of the pitching duties with 107 innings pitched and she is 5-10 with a 4.51 earned run average.  She has struck out 51 batters this season and walked 25.

THE SERIES… Dordt trails the series 26-11 and the two teams split the regular season doubleheader on April 14, 2012.  Dordt won the opener 3-2 and lost the second contest 2-0.  The two teams played in an elimination game in the GPAC Tournament in May and the Defenders were on the short end of a 4-3 decision.
