Blades Travel to Ames For A Pair of Games

“Who are they?”…the Cyclones, like the Dordt College Blades, have recently moved from the NCCHA to the MACHA and play in the same division. The Cyclones are 11-2 on the season with a 5-1 record on the road and 6-1 at home with one shoot-out loss. Iowa State has scored 54 times this season and have been scored on 31 times. Although Iowa State currently sits in second place in their conference they are in a probationary first year in the MACHA and will not be eligible for post-season competition.
Mason Uvodich is the leading scorer for the Cyclones, with 14 points on five goals and 9 assists. Ryan Pittman and Grayson Nuti both have 11 points with Pittman tallying six goals and five assists while Nuti has one goal and a team-high ten assists. James Werner leads Iowa State in goal scoring with seven markers.
Jack Rice has been the goalie of record in eight contests and has a
6-2 record in 480 minutes played. Rick has a 3.25 goals against average and a save percentage of .860. Jeff Czaplewski picked up a shut-out for the ‘Clones in one of his two outings and has an impressive .500 goals against average to go along with a .970 save percentage.
The Blades…are returning to action for the first time since December 8th and are 3-12 this season with a pair of wins over Kansas and one over Colorado.
Brandon Fast has team highs in both goals (eight) and assists (eight) for a total of 16 points. Eric Huitsing has a dozen points on five goals and seven assists.
Riley Braun has spent all 900 minutes in goal for the Blades and has a 4.73 goals against average and a .887 save percentage.
Last time they met…the Blades and Cyclones last met on Novermber 17, 2011 and Iowa State skated to a 5-1 win over the Dordt Blades in the Clash in the Corn. Iowa State has won the last 3 outings against Dordt College and the series record since 2002 is knotted at 13 wins apiece.
Last time out…Iowa State, who also last played on December 8, picked up a 5-3 victory over Missouri State following up on a 3-1 win the previous day.
In Dordt's last outing, the Blades picked up the first goal of the match against the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on December 8 but surrendered eight straight, falling 8-1 to the Pioneers.
After This Weekend…the Blades will travel to Fremont, Nebraska to take on the University of Nebraska in the Sidner Ice Arena at 7:00 pm on Friday, January 25 and at 4:00 pm on Saturday, January 26.
New conference affiliation…the Dordt Blades have joined the Mid-America Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA) which has schools in two separate divisions (Gold and Silver) and Dordt College will be a part of the Silver Division. Western Conference schools include:Iowa, Iowa State, University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Missouri State (D3), Kansas (suspended operations for the season), Nebraska and Dordt.
The top two teams from the North, Central and West will make the playoffs, plus 2 wild card spots decided on winning percentage. Lewis, Western Illinois, Nebraska and Dordt are all probationary teams and therefore will not be eligible for playoffs in 2012-2013.
The Coaches…Bill Elgersma returns for his fourth season behind the bench for the Blades. Elgersma helped lead the Blades to their 3rd ACHA National Tournament appearance in 2009-2010. Before taking over the reins in 2009-2010, Elgersma served as the assistant coach.
Assisting Elgersma again this season will be Adam Jeninga (6th year) and John Langeraap (4th year).
