Dordt Basketball Hosts Doubleheader Tuesday

SCOUTING REPORT… Grand View is 2-0 this season and have outscored teams 71-42.5.  The Vikings outrebound teams 40-29 and make 44.5 percent of the field goals they try.  Grand View has also gotten to the free throw line 53 times and converted 39 for 74 percent while opponents have made 23-32 tries for 72 percent.

The Vikings are led by Amy Vos with a 13.5 points per game average and she has made 4-9 three-point shots.  Morgan Hamner knocks down 13.0 points per game and is 8-10 on free throws.  Shelbie Beatty scores 12.5 points per game while Mika Rodewoald has an 8.5 points per game average.  Rodewald also averages 7.5 rebounds and Vos takes down seven per game.  Abby Mendlik is the leader in assists with a 6.0 average.

Information regarding Grace University is very limited.  The Royals played York College last week and lost to the Panthers 97-75 after trailing 45-30 at halftime.  Lance Evans scored 19 points and had 13 rebounds while JJ Hartung scored 14 points and Spencer Plank had 12.  The Royals made 28-73 shots from the floor and were outrebounded 51-42. 

DEFENDER NOTES… The Defender women are 0-2 this season with losses to Valley City State and Jamestown.  Dordt has averaged 62.5 points per game and allow 68.5.  The Defenders make 41.6 percent of their field goals while opponents have converted 43.8 percent.  Dordt has turned it over 23.5 times per game to 22.5 per game for foes.  Opponents hold a slight 35-33 rebounding advantage and have gotten to the free throw line for 37-50 success to 17-27 success for Dordt.

Kara Van Dyke scores 14.5 points per game and grabs 8.5 rebounds.  Brianna Spronk is knocking down 13.0 points and Elise Maresh is converting eight points per contest.  Maresh also snags eight rebounds a game and Jessica Jelsema takes down five per game.  Jasmin Schelhaas and Danelle Boone each score 6.0 points per game and Schelhaas averages 2.0 assists per contest.

The Dordt men are 3-0 after beating Valley City State and Jamestown last weekend.  The Defenders are averaging 87 points per game and allow 63.0 points per contest.  Dordt outrebounds teams 40.3-30 and are making 54.1 percent of its field goals while opponents are converting 39.0 percent.

Jordan Vogel scores 15.0 points per game and snares 6.7 rebounds and is making 77 percent of his field goals.  Austin Katje, who injured an ankle on Friday, is averaging 14.0 points per game after missing Saturday’s win over Valley City State.  Kyle Lindbergh drops in 11.7 points per outing and gets to 7.3 rebounds per game and Shawn Keizer has averaged 10.3 points per game with 5.3 rebounds and he is making 60 percent of his three-point tries (9-15).  Trevor Wolterstorff completes the double digit scorers with a 10.3 average to go with 5.3 rebounds.  Cliff Warner is averaging 3.6 assists per game with 6.7 points and Chris Sievers is averaging 8.0 points per outing.

HISTORY… Dordt trails the series with the Grand View women 11-4 and the last meeting was on November 11, 2009 in Sioux Center.  Dordt trailed 29-23 at halftime and played the Vikings to a standoff in the second half before falling 59-53.  Brianna Spronk is the only player on the Dordt roster that saw time in that game, scoring three and grabbing six rebounds.  McKinize Schmidt led Dordt with 18 points in that loss.  Grand View was topped by Jennifer Jorgenson with 22 points and eight reboudns and Amy Vos came off the bench to score seven and had eight rebounds.

The Dordt men lead the series with Grace 5-0.  Dordt won last year’s game 110-63 behind 53.7 percent shooting and a 51-27 rebounding advantage.  Trevor Wolterstorff had 19 points and Jordan Vogel 14 to lead the Defenders and 14 Defender players scored.  Grace was topped by Jonathan Loutzenhiser with 19 points.

NEXT… The Grand View women face Morningside on Friday, November 2 while the Defender women will face Moody Bible Institute on Friday night and will meet either Ohio Christian or Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday at a tournament hosted by Moody Bible in Chicago.

The Grace men will face Emmaus Bible College this weekend at Ankeny, Iowa.  The Defender men are scheduled to face Waldorf and AIB this weekend at a classic hosted by Northwestern.  The Waldorf game tips off at 6:00 Friday and the AIB game is at 2:00 on Saturday.
