Dordt Men Host Soccer Quarterfinal

GAMETIME… Dordt will host Morningside in Great Plains Athletic Conference quarterfinal round soccer on Thursday, November 1.  The game will start at 2:00 and can be heard via a webcast at  Results will be posted on ; and .

SCOUTING REPORT… The Mustangs are 6-10-2 this season and 4-4-2 in GPAC play this season.  The Mustangs were outscored 38-34 this season and have put 153 shots on goal to 123 for opponents. 

Saxx Adams leads the team in goals with nine and has four assists.  Cameron Meter has scored seven goals this year and has two assists.  Chico Hernandez is good for five goals and six assists this season.  Evaristo Hernandez has played 929 minutes in goal with 20 goals allowed and has made 49 saves.  Eduie Curiel has played 638 minutes in goal with 17 goals allowed and 31 saves. 

DORDT COLLEGE NOTES… The Defenders are 10-7-1 overall and 6-3-1 in GPAC play this year and finished fourth in the GPAC regular season race.

Dordt has outscored teams 47-30 this season with 145 shots on goal to 127 shots for opponents.  Eric Grootenboer has 11 goals this season with four assists and Josh Brinkerhoff has ten goals and two assists so far this season.  Brady Van Holland has a team high eight assists to go with six goals.  Scott Van Wylen has added five goals and has six assists.  Jon Brinkerhoff has played all 1652 available minutes in goal and has allowed 30 goals for a 1.63 per-90 minutes played average and he has 88 saves.

THE SERIES…Dordt trails the series 10-6 but the Defenders won the most recent meeting between the two teams 3-2 on October 23.  Dordt scored the game winner in the 85th minute on a penalty kick by Scott Van Wylen to unlock a 2-2 tie that had stood from halftime.  Forrest Maxon and Chico Hernandez each had goals for the Mustangs in the 22nd and 31st minutes while Dordt got its goals from Eric Grootenboer and David Riley in the 29th and 43rd minutes.  Dordt outshot the visitors 9-8 on goal.  

LAST TIME… The last action for Morningside was the October 23 loss to Dordt while the Defenders traveled to Hastings on October 27 to conclude the regular season.  Dordt got a goal in the first half from Josh Brinkerhoff but the Broncos got goals from Jordan Green in the 53rd and 58th minutes to take the lead.

NEXT UP……The winner will advance to the semifinals on Tuesday, November 6 against the winner of the Hastings-Dakota Wesleyan quarterfinal round game.  If Hastings wins they would host the semifinal.  The Dordt-Morningside winner would host if Dakota Wesleyan upsets Hastings.
