Movie script consultant acknowledges Dordt student contributions to book
April 5, 2010
Last year Dr. Linda Seger, an internationally acclaimed script consultant and author, spoke and worked with the Dordt College script-writing class of Dr. James C. Schaap.
This year Dr. Seger listed these students on the acknowledgments page of her latest book, Making a Good Script Great.
Seger referred to the “invaluable help” of Alvin Shim, a senior from Sioux Center, who worked as an intern for her last summer. She noted Shim’s research, shared brainstorming and film discussions, and thanked him for a month of hard work helping her complete the book.
Additional Dordt students thanked for providing examples in her newest book release were Kelly Cooke, senior from Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; David De Wit, junior from Alton, Iowa; Laura Heckmann, senior from Canton, SD; Andrew Hornor, senior from Houston, Texas; Daniel Kauten, senior from Denver, Iowa; Luke Kreykes, senior from Sheldon, Iowa; Jon Nederhoff, senior from Wellsburg, Iowa; Jeffrey Niesen, junior from Waynesville, Ill.; Daniel Palmer, junior from Wayne, N.J.; Emily Sajdak, senior from Pella, Iowa; Dale Vande Griend, senior from Hull, Iowa; Ryan Van Surksum, junior from Orange City, Iowa; Joel Veldkamp, senior from Cumming, Iowa; Hani Yang, senior from Merida Yucatan, Mexico; Jesse Brauning, Bree Brouwer, and Matt Turner, Dordt’s Class of 2009.
Making a Good Script Great is Seger’s 10th published volume. Her books are used as textbooks in Dr. Jim Schaap’s script-writing class at Dordt.
Seger is a successful script consult in the Hollywood film industry, having reviewed more than 2,000 scripts for more than 40 produced feature films and 35 produced television projects. Her clients have included TriStar Pictures, Ray Bradbury, William Kelley, Linda Lavin, Suzanne de Passe, Tony Bill, as well as production companies and writers from six continents. Director Ron Howard wrote an endorsement for Seger’s book, Making a Good Script Great, stating he’s used the book’s concepts on all his films starting with APOLLO 13.
