I am an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Dordt College with expertise in mathematics education.  I have a B.A. in math education from Dordt College with an endorsement in K-12 athletic coaching.   I also have a middle school endorsement from the University of Sioux Falls.  In 2005 I completed an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction through Dordt College followed by an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of South Dakota in 2015.  My dissertation title was Mindsets, Attitudes, and Achievement in Undergraduate Statistics Courses.

Prior to teaching at Dordt, I taught algebra and coached volleyball and soccer at Western Christian High School in Hull, IA and served Dordt as an adjunct instructor in mathematics and volleyball coach. I have also served at Sanborn Christian, IA and Calvin Christian School in Escondido, CA where I taught various subjects including math, government, Bible, P.E., Health, and coached soccer, track, and volleyball.

Classes that I have recently taught include Core 100, Linear Algebra, Mathematics for College, Math for Elementary Teachers, Methods of Teaching Elementary Mathematics, Number Theory, and Statistics.  Recent conference presentations include using apps to teach mathematics, rich problem-solving tasks, and integrating faith and learning in the mathematics classroom.  I am passionate about high quality mathematics instruction and love exploring this with prospective teachers.
