Coaching Background

Craig Stiemsma was named the men’s soccer coach in November of 2014 and associate head coach with the both the women's and men's program in 2018. Steimsma is in his second stint with the men after spending the previous eight season with the Dordt women’s basketball program.  Prior to his time at Dordt, Stiemsma taught and coached at Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa.

Philosophy

  • The Defender Way: All out, all the time, playing a game we love, with guys we love, for a God we love.
  • Motto: Have a great attitude, be a great teammate, be competitive, persevere.
  • Core verse: “Jesus grew in wisdom, and stature and in favor with God and in favor with men.” Luke 2:52

We will seek academic growth, physical development, spiritual growth, and social growth. Our outcome is that players will graduate as mature servant-leaders.

At Dordt

While coaching the Defender men’s soccer program Stiemsma has guided the Defenders to 58 wins. Under his leadership, Dordt qualified for two GPAC post-season tournament semi-final rounds as well as earning a pair of berths to the NAIA regional tournament. He also coached the Defender women's basketball program from 2007-15.
