Coaching Experience

Coach Smith enters his first season at Dordt after spending 2015-2016 at Van Vleck High School in Van Vleck, Texas. Smith was responsible for the development of the defensive end and contributed to the program’s bi-district playoff appearance last fall. Prior to coaching, Smith spent a season as a starting nose tackle and defensive end for the Knoxville Nighthawks and Alabama Hammers in the Professional Arena Football League.

Playing Experience

As a player at Rice University, Smith started 35 of the 42 collegiate games he played in. In 2008 he was part of the Owl’s Texas Bowl Championship, Conference USA Co-West Championship, and team that finished with a record of 10-3. Smith was a double major at Rice, earning degrees in Sports Medicine and Psychology.

Smith graduated from Bay City High School where he excelled in both track and football, and was inducted into the Bay City High School Hall of Fame in 2013.
