Nathan Bacon was named Dordt head baseball coach in July 2019. He came to Dordt after serving as an assistant baseball coach at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas for five seasons. The 2018 University of Ozarks baseball team qualified for its conference post season tournament for the first time in a decade and he helped lead a turnaround of the program from 2015 when the Eagles were 5-23 in conference play. In 2019, 11 of his players earned All-Academic honors from the conference and one earned Academic All-American honors.
Bacon's baseball coaching experience also includes time as a pitching coach at Summit Christian Academy (Missouri) and head coach, general manager and vice president of operations in the Puerto Rico and Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Leagues from 2015-19.
Bacon was a standout collegiate pitcher and is a member of the Avila (Kansas) Hall of Fame.
As I coach I know my job goes deeper than simply developing baseball players and a winning program. My job is to show our young men what it means to be a man after God’s own heart. It is important our players know I love them and care about them as a person more than just a player. When we focus more on the man than the athlete we open up doors that could have eternal impacts. Making a commitment to this daily will allow our program to develop men prepared to be great husbands, fathers, employees and impactful members of their community. As a byproduct, committing to this philosophy as a coaching staff we create a team culture that is unique because the relationships will be eternal.
