Mel Knobloch was named Dordt Dance Team head coach in April of 2015. Knobloch spent the previous 10 years coaching the Unity Christian High School dance team where it won Division I rankings at state for 10 years straight, and twice in four years earned Judge's Choice Awards. Knobloch also serves as dance and fitness instructor at Robin's School of Dance in Sioux Center, Iowa, and has been teaching there since 2004.
Poise, professionalism, passion, and pride, are all words that I live by as I lead this team. The role of this team is to help promote school spirit and create a positive school climate through performances and activities. We do this by using our God given talents and structuring our movements in a way that is honoring and pleasing to the Lord. As a coach, I want to see these dancers grow into strong Christian women during their time here at Dordt, not only in their skills and technique, but also spiritually and academically. Molding and educating these dancers to be loyal and faithful teammates throughout all aspects of life: dance team, work, friends, family, and faith.
Under the direction of Knobloch the Dordt dance team received multiple division one rankings and trophy placements at the ISDTA competition, a fourth place trophy for hip-hop, placed fourth overall in the GPAC competition and placed sixth in the NAIA Northwest Nationals Qualifier. The dance team is scheduled to have several public performances this year in conjunction with home football and basketball games and the team will also compete at the ISDTA Competition in early December as well as in several dance duals, the GPAC Championshps and the NAIA National Qualifier.
Knobloch graduated from Dordt University (formerly known as Dordt College) with a double major in physical education and recreation in 2009.
She is certified by Dance Educators of America to teach classical ballet, tap dance, classical/contemporary jazz dance, modern dance, and theatrical acrobatics.
She is also certified by Zumba to teach Basic 1 and 2.
