A CONCEPT THAT BLEW MY MIND

That even though the pursuit of knowledge is a primary form of glorifying our Lord, we are not meant to know everything and that is perfectly acceptable. God speaks to us through his Word, but there are things out there that he wants us to discover with a curious mind. Sometimes we may not achieve those discoveries, but it is the purposeful journey to that revelation that is paramount.

COOL THINGS I DID AT DORDT

I have been on the baseball team all four years here at Dordt, and that has helped me meet lifelong friends and create outstanding memories. Along with that, I have had the opportunity to work in the Admissions Office this past year and I have enjoyed contributing to the success of this university.

OBSTACLES I'VE OVERCOME

My sophomore year I had a difficult realization that my dream of becoming an engineer had to come to an end. Not because of the coursework or the professors (they are great!), but because I realized that it simply was not for me. I took some time to think, and then decided to have a conversation with Dr. Clark in the mathematics department. That decision was one of the best I have made in my life, as Dr. Clark showed me the possibilities of a mathematics degree and genuinely cared about my future and my decision.

WHO I WAS WHEN I CAME TO DORDT

You can ask any of the baseball seniors—when I was a freshman, boy was I quiet. I came a long way from home, and selfishly resisted the community that was pushing so hard for me to join in.

HOW DORDT IMPACTED ME

The community genuinely pushes for you and you can see the Spirit permeate everything here. More than just the ample opportunities for worshipping the Lord outside of class, there are opportunities in class. I have learned things about my faith that I never knew before. I credit my experiences here at Dordt for the creation of the man I am today, and I will be forever thankful for this place.

What’s next for you?

I am moving to Omaha after graduation to work at Milliman, which is an insurance consulting firm. My role will be Financial Analyst and Benefits Consultant.

WHAT I WOULD TELL PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

The professors genuinely care about you. I never thought that I could play board games with my professors as if they were my friends. When I had struggles with certain aspects of my faith, my professors helped me pull through. I will never forget a conversation that I had with one of my professors, and I knew that it was God speaking directly through him. The knowledge they give you is more than just book smarts, but they teach you how to be the best member of God's kingdom that you can be.

HOW DORDT HELPED ME DO MORE

The support of my coaches, professors, and fellow students has helped me grow as a child of God. Learning about how to challenge my faith has helped me grow, allowing me to do more in the world both now and after graduation.
