Where they are now
Where Are They Now is a podcast series featuring Dordt’s alumni student-athletes. This episode features Sam Wensink, a 2017 Dordt graduate. As a cross country and track athlete, Wensink is arguably one of the most decorated individual athletes in Dordt history. He still lives in the Sioux Center area and works at a financial planning institution. He was even a Dordt adjunct professor for a while. Below are some of Wensink’s quotes from the interview.
On why he chose Dordt
“I grew up near a Dutch settlement (Oostburg, Wisconsin), so it’s similar to Sioux Center and I’ve always had connections to Dordt because of that. My older brother went to Dordt, and it was at the top of my list because of the great experience he was having.”
On choosing his major
“I didn’t always know that I wanted to go into accounting and finance, but I was sort of math-minded in high school. I knew I wanted to do something related to numbers because that came naturally. My dad and I have always talked money, so I took an interest in finance.”
On what sticks out to him about Dordt
“It’s those little memories. It could be just a normal weeknight with the roommates in the apartment, and nothing exciting is going on, but those are some of my best memories. Just the day-to-day, being around your best friends.”
