favorite spot on campus
Covenant Hall – This is the place I established many of my very first friendships and memories at Dordt College.
Philosophy of Education was my favorite class because it was a nice break from the usual business classes I was required to take. It also gave me a completely different perspective on my education and made me have a greater appreciation for my Christian education.
a concept that blew my mind
A concept that blew me away at Dordt is that we are able and capable of accomplishing difficult things. The professors and staff at Dordt constantly challenged me and pushed me outside of my comfort zone. Because the professors at Dordt prepared me for difficult situations, I am able to have the right mindset and overcome challenging circumstances when they arise in my own life.
cool things i did at dordt
During my time at Dordt, I ran track and had the opportunity of traveling to a few new areas of the country for the NAIA national track meet. I enjoyed participating in multiple intramural team sports including volleyball, softball, and soccer. I also was able to participate in a bookkeeping internship in Sioux Falls, SD at Limestone Bookkeeping during my final semester at Dordt.
obstalces i've overcome
I think the biggest obstacle I overcame was learning humility. I experienced some difficult circumstances while at Dordt, but it taught me to completely rely on God during these times. He places people in your life at the right time and the people at Dordt helped me refocus on what is truly important in life.
who i was when i came to dordt
I was eager for a change and I hate to admit it, but I was overly confident. I had no idea how much growth I still had to experience in life.
how dordt impacted me
Absolutely. The relationships and interactions I had at Dordt positively impacted me and inspired me to be the person I am now and placed me on the right path to get me where I am today.
where i am now
I was able to find a job in my field a month before I graduated. I am still working in my field and have hopes to continue developing my career in accounting.
I have been an Accountant at Risk Administration Services in Sioux Falls, SD since November of 2017. I am also a Barre3 instructor at the Barre3 studio in Sioux Falls. (Updated 2/25/19)
what i would tell prospective students
College is a time of spiritual growth and maturity. Although college offers its challenges, do not take for granted the opportunity to develop friendships as these can be the most influential asset you have during your time at Dordt and even after you graduate.
how dordt helped me do more
Dordt challenged me to think more deeply and challenge myself in every aspect of life, even the simple things. I’ve learned to get outside of my comfort zone and pursue other interests apart from accounting.
