FAVORITE SPOT ON CAMPUS

Wherever there are people, so the Grille and the theater pod are two prime examples.

FAVORITE CLASS

Make-up Design. I learned how to create wounds and make myself look elderly. It was so fun.

A CONCEPT THAT BLEW MY MIND

I learned that there are many kinds of people in the world and that makes conversation a lot richer. From my fellow classmates, roommates, and friends to my professors, employers, and co-workers at school, we can discuss many different topics on all intellectual levels.

COOL THINGS I DID AT DORDT

I participated in theater and even went to two American College theater festivals. I played on the men's club volleyball team, as well as starting a tennis club. I ran the all-campus retreat and served with the PLIA club. I wrote for thedordtlife.com, as well as for the Diamond. However, the coolest thing that I did was study abroad. I went on SPICE my junior year and lived in Zwolle, Netherlands, for four months, and I had the opportunity to travel around Europe.

OBSTACLES I'VE OVERCOME

I grew up in a suburb of Chicago, so moving to rural Iowa was a huge difference for me. Between the culture shock of living in the country and being nine hours away from home, moving to college was not an easy thing to do. I had to learn to live on my own and to adapt to a new place that would become my home for the next four years. Spoiler alert: It did become my home-away-from-home fairly quickly.

WHO I WAS WHEN I CAME TO DORDT

I was an 18 year old who was scared out of his mind about how the next four years were going to turn out. I was also that weird freshman guy who would talk to anyone and everyone. I think I freaked out a lot of people with my strong personality. I didn't change much over the four years of college; I ended up as that weird senior guy who freaked everyone out with my strong personality.

HOW DORDT IMPACTED ME

College is a transition time: a time to grow and figure out who we are. I am no exception. Over my four years, Dordt has pushed me to think independently, challenged me to grow spiritually, and shown me a world beyond where I grew up. I feel more equipped to go out and become the person and disciple that God called me to be.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR ME

I am planning on moving back home to Chicago to start my career in the field of communication. I am looking forward to whatever adventure comes my way.

WHAT I WOULD TELL PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

Visit. One of the biggest deciding factors that caused me to choose Dordt in the first place was my visit. I really got a feel of campus life and had a chance to talk with students and faculty about various options that Dordt has and what it's like to be a student there.

HOW DORDT HELPED ME DO MORE

I got to travel to 8 different states and 12 different countries because of Dordt. I got to have conversations and discussions with so many unique people that gave me insights on topics that I didn't even know I should be discussing before I came to Dordt. I had so many ways to further my education beyond the classroom. I also had many ways to grow spiritually beyond chapel. Since Dordt did more to make sure I had these opportunities, I get to do more now that I’ve left Dordt's campus.
