Agriculture


 

Ben and Mathilda Vos Sustainable Agriculture/Family Farm Scholarship

The children of Ben and Mathilda Vos established this scholarship in honor of their parents. This scholarship is available for students majoring in a four-year agriculture program other than agri-business. Applicants must be sophomore or junior status students to receive the scholarship monies for their junior or senior year, and must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA. This scholarship will be awarded on the basis of the applicant's understanding of sustainable agriculture/family farms and how they see their future involvement in that area.

Cecil W. and Betty D. Byerly Agri-business Scholarship

Cecil and Betty Byerly fund this scholarship to promote Dordt's agri-business major program. All agri-business major students from all class levels, with a 2.50 cumulative GPA may apply for this scholarship

Central Plains Dairy Association Scholarship

Central Plains Dairy Association has funded this scholarship for upperclassmen majoring in agriculture with the intent to work in the dairy industry. Preference will be given to students who are or were involved in the Central Plains Dairy Expo. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 and be at full time status.

Dordt College Heritage Agriculture Scholarship

The Heritage Scholarships are available as the result of a Dordt College Office of Advancement Fund Raising Campaign. This scholarship is for agriculture majors. Applicants must be classified as a sophomore or junior student with a 3.00 cumulative GPA. A recipient may reapply and could potentially receive this scholarship for a second year.

Farm Credit Services of America Scholarship

Farm Credit Services of America of Omaha, Nebraska has committed to fund two scholarships for sophomore students majoring in agriculture. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and plan to use their agriculture major to serve their rural community and perhaps return to the farm or ranch. Preference will be given to residents of Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota or Wyoming.

Frank and Irene Feikema Agriculture Scholarship

This scholarship endowment has been established by Irene Feikema who with memories of her husband Frank, wishes to support Dordt College students majoring in agriculture. Applicants must be continuing students and must have a 2.50 cumulative GPA to apply for this scholarship.

Gary and Donna Doppenberg Animal Science Scholarships

The Doppenbergs fund these scholarships for students intending to major in agriculture with an emphasis in animal science and large animal nutrition. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA. This scholarship is not automatically renewed each year; however a recipient may reapply as a continuing student each year and will be considered equally with the other continuing student applicants. A total of four scholarships are available each year for incoming freshmen and/or continuing students.

GROWMARK Scholarship

This scholarship is made possible through funding by the Glenn Web Education Fund/GROWMARK Foundation. Applicants must be majoring in agriculture, agri-business ag-education, or plant science. Second and third year students may apply to receive the scholarship monies for their junior or senior year.

Joe's Ready Mix, Inc. Scholarship

This scholarship is available to students majoring in agriculture or agri-business. Applicants must be full-time Dordt College students with a 3.00 cumulative GPA.

Leonard & Ann Goedhart Ag Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by the Goedhart family. They wish to encourage and support students majoring in agriculture. Recipients must be sophomore, junior or senior status students in good academic standing. Financial need may be taken into consideration. Recipients may receive this scholarship for more than one year. Eligible students are automatically considered.

Robyn Agriculture Scholarship

This scholarship endowment has been established by Art and Mary Robyn. They wish to support Dordt College students majoring in agriculture with an emphasis in animal or plant science. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA. This scholarship is not automatically renewed each year; however a recipient may reapply as a continuing student each year and will be considered equally with the other continuing student applicants.

Value Added Pork Scholarship

Marv Rietema and Ted Hengeveld have funded this scholarship for agriculture students. Preference will be given to students interested in swine. This scholarship is available to a student during their sophomore, junior or senior year. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Art


Philip and E. Joyce Versluis Art Scholarship

Philip and E. Joyce Versluis fund this scholarship for a student majoring in art. This scholarship is available to a student during their sophomore, junior or senior year with a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA.

Business


Bernard and Marilyn weidenaar business scholarship

Bernard Weidenaar was a member of the Dordt College business department for many years.  This scholarship is available to any full time upperclassman student who is majoring in business or ag business.  A 2.5 minimum grade point average is required.

Carrie Foods Special Effort Scholarships for Business Students

Several scholarships are available each year. Applicants must have a 2.00 cumulative GPA and must be majoring in business administration. It is important that the applicants do scholastic work above the level that would ordinarily be expected of them. This does not necessarily reward those students who earn excellent grades, but rather those who put forth extraordinary effort to obtain their grades. Only freshmen students may apply to receive the scholarship monies for their sophomore year.

Cooper Scholarship for Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Marv and Joan Cooper have funded this scholarship for a student majoring in business administration. Preference will be given to students who have an interest in innovation and entrepreneurship. The recipient must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and must be a full-time student entering their sophomore, junior or senior year.

Dave & Tammy Rozenboom Scholarship

A scholarship funded by Dave & Tammy Rozenboom for a student majoring in business administration with preference given to a student with an emphasis in finance. Upperclassmen may apply if they have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 and are a full time student at Dordt College.

Edward Jones Financial Services Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Edward Jones Financial Advisors Darrell Burns, Sheldon, IA; Brett Hendricks, Lynden, WA; Mark Lundberg, Orange City, IA; Eric Rankin, Sioux Center, IA; Jon Roelofs, Maple Valley, WA; Howie Van Ginkel, Rock Valley, IA; Loren Van Loo, Marysville, WA; and Jerry Van Vliet, Mt. Vernon, WA to encourage students who are interested in pursuing a career in financial services. Applicants should be full time upperclassmen in good academic standing. Criteria used in the selection process will include involvement in school, church, and community activities.

Gailen J. Veurink Memorial Leadership Scholarship

This scholarship is funded in memory of Gailen Veurink whose persistence and tenacity was evident on the basketball court, as a businessman, and in the way he lived his life. This scholarship is for a student majoring in business administration or accounting and is an active member of an official sport at Dordt College. A minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA is required for eligibility. Applicants must be sophomore or junior status students to receive the scholarship monies for their junior or senior year.

Henry De Groot Business Administration Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by business administration and accounting degree alumni of Dordt College. It is named in honor of Henry De Groot who was a business professor at Dordt College for many years. This scholarship is given to an outstanding student majoring in accounting, business administration, or business education. The award is based on evidence of scholarship, Christian commitment, and an interest in service through the administration of a non-profit organization, teaching of accounting, professional accounting, public relations, or advertising

Janet Andre' Bootsma Scholarships for Women Students in Business

These scholarships were established by Dr. Kenneth Bootsma to encourage women students with entrepreneurial, for-profit business interests and a generous heart for others, as was exemplified in the life of Jan (nee Roelfsema) Bootsma. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and must be second or third year students to receive the scholarship monies for their junior or senior year.

Johanna Mesman Berghuis Women in Business Scholarship

Johanna Berghuis has funded this scholarship to encourage women who are majoring in business, accounting, or marketing. Applicants must be at full time status with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are encouraged to apply.

John and Frances Bonnema Memorial Business Scholarship

Mr. and Mrs. Bonnema established several scholarships to encourage Dordt College students in various majors. This scholarship encourages students to demonstrate Christian commitment and principles in the area of business or accounting. A 3.00 cumulative GPA is required. One scholarship is available.

Jubilee Accounting/BUAD Scholarship

This scholarship was funded to encourage students majoring in accounting and business administration. Applicants must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA. Students must be freshmen, sophomore or junior status students to receive this scholarship for their sophomore, junior or senior year.

Northwest Bank Business Scholarship

One scholarship, funded by the Northwest Bank located in Sioux Center, is available for a full time Dordt College student majoring in business administration or accounting. Applicants must also have a 3.00 cumulative GPA. Availability of this scholarship is dependent on annual funding.

Pella Corporation Business Scholarship

Pella Corporation funds this scholarship for a student who has a 3.00 cumulative GPA and is majoring in accounting or business administration. Applicants must be junior status students to receive the scholarship monies for their senior year.

R.J. Dykstra Scholarship for Business Administration Students

Mr. R. J, Dykstra, who was a valued employee of the Dordt College Business Office, established this scholarship in 1974. Applicants must be a business administration major, and have a 2.50 cumulative GPA. Students must be sophomore or junior status students to receive this scholarship for their junior or senior year. Recipient selection will consider the applicants' Christian commitment, evidence of scholarship and communication skills.

Ralph and Cornelia Gritters Business Scholarship

Anna M. Tiemeyer supports this scholarship in honor of her parents. One scholarship is awarded to a business or accounting major. The recipient must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and must be a full-time student entering their sophomore, junior or senior year.

Smith Business Information Systems Scholarship

Leonard and Judith Smith fund this scholarship for a business administration major. Special consideration will be given to students with an information systems emphasis. The recipient must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and must be a full-time student entering the sophomore, junior or senior year. Availability of scholarship is dependent on annual funding.

Chemistry/Physics/Physical Science


Chemistry Faculty Honors Scholarship

Russell and Jean Maatman established this scholarship. This scholarship intends to give recognition and encouragement to students majoring in chemistry. Applicants must be in academic good standing in order to apply.

E. John and Alyda Kosters Science Scholarship

John J. Kosters funds this scholarship in honor of his parents. Applicants can be majoring in biology, chemistry, environmental studies, physics or astronomy. This scholarship is available to a student during their sophomore, junior or senior year with a minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA.

John J. and Shirley A. Kosters Scholarship

John J. Kosters established this scholarship. Applicants can be majoring in biology, chemistry, environmental studies, physics, astronomy or business. This scholarship is available to a student during their freshmen, sophomore, junior or senior year with a minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA.

Richard and Hendrika Zwart Scholarship

The children of Richard and Hendrika Zwart established this scholarship. This scholarship intends to give recognition and encouragement to students majoring in one of the physical sciences. To be eligible, a student must have a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA. Preference will be given to an applicant who intends to become a teacher in physics, chemistry, or physical science. This scholarship may also be awarded to non-teacher education applicants who intend to major in physics or chemistry.

Rubingh Scholarship for the Sciences

This scholarship is to be awarded to an upperclassman student majoring in one of the following areas, with preference given in the order listed: Chemistry, Bio Chemistry, Molecular Biology or Physics. Applicants must be at full time status with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00. Previous recipients may reapply and will be considered equally with all eligible applicants.

Communication


Dordt College Heritage Communication Scholarship

The Heritage Scholarships are available as the result of a Dordt College Office of Advancement Fund Raising Campaign. This scholarship is available for a Dordt College student majoring in communication. Communication course work and involvement in communication activities will be a consideration in the recipient selection process.

Herbert and Bernace Korthuis Communication and Digital Media Production Scholarships

Mr. and Mrs. Korthuis established this scholarship program for continuing Dordt College students who major in communication or digital media production. Special consideration will be given to applicants interested in journalism as a career.

Martin Seven Communication Scholarships

Martin Seven, Dordt College Library Archivist from 1966-1978 established several scholarships to financially encourage Dordt College students in various areas of study. One scholarship is available for a Dordt College student majoring in communication. Grade point average, communication course work and involvement in communication activities will be considered during the recipient selection process.

TEL Christians in Media Scholarship

This scholarship program was established to encourage students majoring in communication or digital media productions. Applicants must be full time students in good academic standing. Special consideration will be given to students who work at KDCR.

Computer Science


Interstates Companies Computer Science Scholarship

Interstate Companies in Sioux Center, Iowa funds this scholarship for students majoring in computer science. Applicants are required to have a 3.00 cumulative GPA.

Vermeer Computer Science Intern Scholarship

Two scholarships are available for computer science, management information systems or engineering majors who have successfully completed or are currently enrolled in a formal internship program. Recipients must be classified as junior or senior students for the year they receive this scholarship.

Construction Management


Associated General Contractors of Iowa Construction Management Scholarship

The Associated General Contractors of Iowa are funding this scholarship for upperclassmen majoring in construction management. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 and must be at full time status.

Ralph Jennings Memorial Construction Management Scholarship

Jeanne Jennings has established this scholarship in memory of her husband Ralph. Recipients must be majoring in construction management or in business administration with a construction management emphasis. Students from all class levels, in good academic standing are eligible. First preference may be given to students who are Iowa residents.

Wellington construction contractors, inc. construction management scholarship

Wellington Construction Contractors set up this scholarship to benefit students majoring in construction management.  Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.  First preference will be given to Canadian construction management students.

Education


Alberda Education Scholarship

Established by Carl and Tami Alberda, this scholarship was set up to encourage students that are studying to become an educator in a Christian school.   Applicants must be sophomore or junior status, accepted into the Dordt College Teacher Education Program, and intend to teach in a Christian elementary or high school.

B.J. & Deborah Haan Teacher Education Scholarship

Deborah Haan established this scholarship to encourage students majoring in education. Applicants must have a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA and be a sophomore or junior.

CDR Student Encouragement Scholarship

Anonymous donors wish to promote the teacher education major at Dordt College. Recipients must be accepted into the Dordt College Teacher Education Program. It is the donors' wish that the recipients teach at a Christian elementary or high school.

Cella Bosma Teacher Education Scholarship

This scholarship has been established in memory of Cella Bosma, who was a professor at Dordt College. Applicants who intend to teach internationally or in a school with diverse populations of students will be given preference in the recipient selection process.

Dordt College Heritage Teacher Education Scholarship

The Heritage Scholarships are available as the result of a Dordt College Office of Advancement Fund Raising Campaign. This scholarship is available for a Dordt College student who is an education major. Applicant must be in good academic standing and show leadership and service in the education area.

Duane & Rose Schouten-Koele Education Scholarship

This scholarship, funded by Dave & Tammy Rozenboom in honor of Duane & Rose Schouten-Koele, is to encourage currently enrolled upperclassmen majoring in education. Elementary and secondary education majors are encouraged to apply. Upperclassmen may apply if they have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 and are a full time student at Dordt College.

FACT Club Scholarship

Current freshmen may apply for this scholarship to receive it as a sophomore.  This award was set up by the FACT Club and its supporters and desires to help support an active member in the Future Active Christian Teachers Club.

Garry and Delores Zonnefeld Christian Education Scholarship

Mr. and Mrs. Zonnefeld fund this scholarship for a teacher education major who can articulate their belief in distinctive Christian teaching. Applicants must be accepted into the Dordt College Teacher Education Program and must be third year students who will receive the scholarship during their senior year at Dordt College.

Good Shepherd Scholarship

Donald Nibbelink funded this scholarship for teacher education students. This scholarship is for students who are majoring or minoring in special education. Applicants must be classified as sophomore or junior status and be accepted in the teacher education program.

Helen De Groot Education Scholarship

This scholarship is funded in memory of Helen De Groot. It is available for a Dordt College student who is an education major. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and must be accepted into the teacher education program.

Henry and Sadie Buteyn Family Teacher Education Scholarship

The family of Henry and Sadie Buteyn fund this scholarship. It is available for a sophomore or junior status student who is accepted in the teacher education program at Dordt College. The applicant must show a strong commitment to Christian education.

Herman and Cora De Jong Teacher Education Scholarship

Dennis and Pamala De Jong fund this scholarship in honor of his parents and their commitment to Christian education. Recipients must be a secondary education major and /or a middle school classroom minor, and must be accepted or provisionally accepted for admission to the Dordt College Teacher Education Program. Financial need will be a consideration in the recipient selection process.

John and Frances Bonnema Memorial Teacher Education Scholarships

Mr. and Mrs. Bonnema established several scholarships to encourage Dordt College students in various majors. This scholarship encourages students to demonstrate Christian commitment and principles in the area of teacher education. A 3.00 cumulative GPA is required. Two scholarships are available.

John Bosma Memorial Scholarship

G. James Bosma and James D. Bosma established this scholarship in memory of John Bosma who dedicated his entire life to Christian education as a teacher and as a founder of the Nation Union of Christian Schools. Applicants must be accepted into the Dordt College Teacher Education Program, and will be expected to have a strong commitment to Christian education.

Larry & Bonnie Oberloh Education Scholarship

Heath and Amy Oberloh fund this scholarship for teacher education students. This scholarship is available to a student during their sophomore, junior or senior year. Financial need will be a consideration in the recipient selection process. Eligible students are automatically considered for this scholarship.

Randy Poel Memorial Scholarship

Norman and Lucille Poel fund this scholarship in loving memory of their son Randy Poel. This scholarship will be awarded to a student accepted into the teacher education program who intends to teach biology or other natural sciences in a high school. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and be a sophomore or junior.

Ron and Jo Ritsema Elementary Education Scholarship

Mr. and Mrs. Ritsema fund this scholarship for a Dordt College student who is majoring in elementary education. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and must be accepted into the teacher education program.

Sid and Carol Verdoorn Foundation Teacher Education Scholarships

Ten scholarships are funded each year by the Sid and Carol Verdoorn Foundation. Recipients must be accepted into the Dordt College Teacher Education Program, and must be able to show and articulate their commitment to Christian education excellence through their college class work and their written scholarship application materials. It is the donors' wish that the recipients teach at a Christian elementary or high school.

Spirit of Excellence in Christian Education Scholarship

This scholarship is funded to encourage students majoring in education. Applicants should desire to teach in Christian schools. Special consideration will be given to students who exhibit a humble and giving spirit in all aspects of life. Applicants must be accepted for admission into the teacher education program.

Teachers of Underprivileged Children Scholarship

This scholarship is made available by Helen Laack, who wishes to encourage Dordt College students intending to teach in a school for economically or socially underprivileged children. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and must be accepted into the teacher education program.

Vander Ark Family Scholarships

The Vander Ark family wishes to honor its many family members who have so greatly contributed to the profession of teacher education. Two scholarships are available for students who are accepted into the teacher education program at Dordt College. Applicants must show strong commitment to teaching in a Christian grade or high school.

Engineering


Associated General Contractors of Iowa Civil Engineering Scholarship

The Associated General Contractors of Iowa are funding this scholarship for upperclassmen majoring in civil engineering. Preference will be given to a recipient intending to be involved in the heavy highway or road and bridge industries. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 and must be at full time status.

ECC Engineering Scholarship

This scholarship is for a student majoring in engineering. Preference will be given to students intending to work in electrical or chemical engineering. A minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA is required for eligibility. Applicants must be sophomore or junior status students to receive the scholarship monies for their junior or senior year.

EDA, Inc. Engineering Scholarships

EDA, Inc.in Sioux Center funds two engineering scholarships; one will be awarded to an electrical engineering major and the other to a mechanical engineering major. Applicants must have junior class status and have a 2.50 cumulative GPA. Preference will be given to applicants who have a special interest in HVAC or in commercial electrical design.

Interstates Companies Electrical Engineering Scholarship

Interstates Companies in Sioux Center, Iowa funds this scholarship for a student majoring in engineering. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and must demonstrate special aptitude and potential for a career in electrical engineering.

Jonathan Ross Kooima Memorial Scholarship

Gary Rensink funded this scholarship in memory of his nephew Jonathan Ross Kooima, who was a 2006 Dordt College freshman student from Ridgecrest, California. This scholarship will be awarded to an engineering major with special consideration given to applicants who are members of the Kuyper Scholars Program.

Link Manufacturing, Ltd. Engineering Scholarship

Link Manufacturing, Ltd. in Sioux Center, Iowa supports this scholarship for students majoring in mechanical engineering. A recipient can be a third-, fourth-, or fifth-year student at Dordt College. Applicants must be in good academic standing and demonstrate good leadership skills and maturity in both academic and extracurricular activities. A personal interview with the president and general manager of Link Manufacturing may be required during the selection process. The availability of this scholarship is dependent on annual funding.

Lyle and Marlene Bleeker Engineering Scholarship

Lyle and Marlene Bleeker from St. Paul, Minnesota established this scholarship program to encourage Dordt College students majoring in engineering. Applicants must be sophomore or junior status students who would receive the scholarship for their junior or senior year. A 3.00 cumulative GPA is required, and special preference may be given to female applicants.

Pella Corporation Engineering Scholarship

Pella Corporation funds this scholarship for a student who has a 3.00 cumulative GPA and is majoring in engineering. Applicants must be junior status students to receive the scholarship monies for their senior year. The availability of this scholarship is dependent on annual funding.

Ralph & jeanne jennings civil engineering scholarship

Funded through the generous support of the Ralph & Jeanne Jennings Foundation, the recipient of this scholarship must be majoring in civil engineering. Students from all class levels, in good academic standing are eligible. First preference may be given to students who are Iowa residents.

Robert and Lois Vermeer Engineering Scholarship

This scholarship endowment was established by Mr. and Mrs. Vermeer; it is meant to benefit Dordt College students with career goals in the area of engineering. Continuing students, majoring in engineering with a 3.00 cumulative GPA are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Steensma Engineering Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by Mr. Henry J. Steensma from Sanborn, Iowa. It is available for a Dordt College student majoring in engineering. Special consideration may be given to applicants who have financial or personal circumstances that make completing a college degree especially difficult.

Vermeer Engineering Intern Scholarship

Two scholarships are available for computer science, management information systems or engineering majors who have successfully completed or are currently enrolled in a formal internship program. Recipients must be classified as junior or senior students for the year they receive this scholarship

English


Martin Seven English Scholarships

Martin Seven, Dordt College Library Archivist from 1966-1978 established several scholarships to financially encourage Dordt College students in various areas of study. Two scholarships are available for students majoring in English. Applicants must be sophomore or junior status students to receive the scholarship monies for their junior or senior year. Recipients are selected based on submitted writing samples completed within the previous twelve months.

Mike Vanden Bosch English Scholarship

The children of Dr. Mike Vanden Bosch, Professor of English, Emeritus 2000 established this scholarship to celebrate his retirement. One scholarship is awarded to an English major who is in the teacher education program and intends to pursue a career as an English teacher. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and must be a continuing student entering their junior or senior year.

HHP


Dordt College Heritage HHP Scholarship

The Heritage Scholarships are available as the result of a Dordt College Office of Advancement Fund Raising Campaign. This scholarship is available for a Dordt College student who is a HHP (Health and Human Performance) major. Applicant must be in good academic standing and show leadership and service in the HHP area.

History/Philosophy/Theology


Louis and Tina Van Dyke History Scholarship

Louis and Tina Van Dyke established this scholarship to encourage students majoring in history. Applicants must be sophomores or juniors to receive the scholarship monies for their junior or senior year. A 3.30 cumulative GPA is also required.

Martin Seven Classics Scholarship

Martin Seven, Dordt College Library Archivist from 1966-1978 established several scholarships to financially encourage Dordt College students in various areas of study. This scholarship is available for students who major in one of the following areas: history, philosophy, theology, or individual studies. A 3.00 cumulative GPA is required.

Nick R. Van Til Scholarship

Nick R. Van Til, Professor of Philosophy, Emeritus established this scholarship for students majoring in one the following areas: history, philosophy or theology. Applicants must be junior status students to receive the scholarship monies for their senior year. A 3.00 cumulative GPA is also required. Recipients will be selected on the basis of grade point average, general academic interest, academic potential and life goals.

Language


Boot Family Study Abroad Scholarship

This scholarship is available for a student who has been accepted into a Dordt College approved, full semester study abroad semester. Preference will be given to applicants who are enrolled in a foreign language class during their study abroad semester. Special consideration will also be given to applicants with sophomore and junior class status. Application deadline is April 15.

Dallas Apol Foreign Language Scholarship

Dr. Dallas Apol Professor of Foreign Language, Emeritus 2000 established this scholarship program for students accepted into a Dordt College approved study abroad program. First consideration will be given to applicants with a major or minor in Spanish who will be studying in a country where the language is spoken.  Application deadline is April 15.

Dordt College Foreign Language Department Scholarship

One scholarship is available for a student who has been accepted into a Dordt College approved study-abroad program. Applicants should intend to study or use a foreign language during their study abroad semester. Preference will be given to students with a foreign language major or minor. Application deadline is April 15.

Foreign Candy Company Study Abroad Scholarships

The Foreign Candy Company in Hull, Iowa and Mr. Peter De Yager established this scholarship program for students who have been accepted into a Dordt College approved study abroad program. Recipients will be selected on academic ability, interest in continuing in the study of or work in a foreign language, and financial need. Application deadline is April 15.

VanderHaag Study Abroad Scholarship

The Vander Haag family from Sanborn, Iowa has established this scholarship program for students who have been accepted into a Dordt College approved study abroad program. Application deadline is April 15.

Mathematics


Calvin Jongsma Mathematics Scholarship

This scholarship provides financial support for mathematics majors who intend to teach mathematics at some level, from middle school to university, and who desire to promote a broad contextual vision of the meaning and role of mathematics in a life of Christian discipleship. Applicants must be sophomore or junior students with a minimum GPA of 3.25 when they apply.

Martin Seven Mathematics Scholarship

Martin Seven, Dordt College Library Archivist from 1966-1978 established several scholarships to financially encourage Dordt College students in various areas of study. One scholarship is available for a Dordt College student majoring in mathematics. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and must be sophomore or junior year class status at time of scholarship application.

Viss Mathematics and Science Scholarship

Charles and Gertrude Viss fund this scholarship to encourage students majoring in mathematics and science. Applicants must be sophomore or junior status students to receive the scholarship for their junior or senior year. A 3.00 cumulative GPA is required.

Missions


Alice De Wit Missions Scholarship

This scholarship was created in honor of Alice De Wit to encourage students who are pursuing a degree in higher education that will enable them to serve on a mission field (preferably foreign). Their future work should minister in Christ's name to people's spiritual, educational, and physical needs. This scholarship is available to sophomores and juniors who must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50.

Music


Anne Heyns De Beer Music Education Scholarship

Dr. Karen De Mol, Professor of Music at Dordt College has established this scholarship in honor of her mother. Applicants must be music education majors who are full time sophomore or junior status students accepted or in the process of being accepted into the Dordt College teacher education program.

Assink Church Music Leadership Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by Brent and Janice Assink. Applicants must be sophomore or junior students, but do not need to be majoring in music. Applicants must show evidence of musicianship, leadership, and understanding of and passion for worship according to reformed principles.

Carol Lee Zylstra Memorial Church Music Scholarship

This scholarship is available as a result of gifts from Gerrit and Carol Lee Zylstra. Applicants must be Dordt College students who have good academic standing and who show commitment and contribution in the area of church music, particularly organ music. Applicants may be, but are not required to be church music majors. This scholarship is not automatically renewable; however a recipient may reapply and will be equally considered with other applicants each year.

Jill Vander Zee Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is funded in memory of Jill Vander Zee, daughter of Dr. Delmar Vander Zee, Professor of Biology, Emeritus 2009 and his wife Lois. On an every other year basis students with a music or art major or minor may apply for this scholarship. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA.

John and Frances Bonnema Memorial Music Scholarship

Mr. and Mrs. Bonnema established several scholarships to encourage Dordt College students in various majors. This scholarship encourages students to demonstrate Christian commitment and principles in the area of music. A 3.00 cumulative GPA is required. One scholarship is available.

Marcia Roskamp Verbrugge Music Scholarship

James and Marcia Verbrugge created this scholarship to award a full time upperclassman student in good academic standing who is majoring in music education. If no applicants majoring in music education, students majoring or minoring in music or music performance will be considered.

Mildred M. Dupon Memorial Music Education Scholarship

John A. and Merrie Beth Den Boer have established this scholarship in honor of her mother. Applicants must be music education majors who are full time sophomore or junior status students accepted or in the process of being accepted into the Dordt College teacher education program.

Roossien Organ Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by David Roossien. It will be awarded to a student who has contributed to church music programs as well as the Dordt College music programs. Applicants need not be majoring in music; however, they must be able to demonstrate performance ability in the area of organ music.

Stan and Nancy Speer Music Education Scholarship

Stan and Nancy Speer have established this scholarship. Applicants must be music education majors who are full time sophomore or junior status students accepted or in the process of being accepted into the Dordt College teacher education program.

Steensma Music Scholarship

Peter and Tena Steensma established this scholarship for a Dordt College student majoring in music. Applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA. Selection criteria include scholarship, leadership character and Christian commitment.

Nursing


heart nursing scholarship

James Morgan Halpert and Lisa Halpert set up this scholarship to financially encourage a student who is majoring in nursing.  Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated their commitment to service through volunteering and missions, as well as those who contribute to Dordt College activities, such as music, student government, or athletics.  Recipients must have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average to qualify.

Orange City Area Health Foundation Nursing Scholarship

The Orange City Area Health System funds two scholarships annually. Applicants for this scholarship must be accepted in the Dordt College Nursing Program and have a 3.00 cumulative GPA. Preference will be given to students who intend to work in a rural health care setting.

RRL Health Sciences Scholarship

Randy and Rachel Lamfers have created this scholarship for an upperclassman majoring in a Health Sciences related field, namely Pre-Med or Nursing. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 and be at fulltime status at Dordt College.

Timothy j. sandbulte family foundation nursing scholarship

This scholarship was set up for an upperclassman nursing major who shows a servant heart and demonstrates financial need.  Recipient must be a full time student at Dordt College and in good academic standing.

Pre-Law


Oostra, Bierma, Van Engen, and Mouw P.L.C. Pre-law Scholarship

Oostra, Bierma, Van Engen, and Mouw P.L.C. funds this scholarship for a full-time Dordt College student who plans to attend law school. Applicants must be sophomore or junior status students who would receive the scholarship for their junior or senior year. A 3.00 cumulative GPA and membership in the Dordt College Pre-law program are requirements for application.

Pre-Professional/Health Sciences


Al Mennega Honors Scholarship

This scholarship was established in honor of Dr. Al Mennega, Professor of Biology, Emeritus 2000, for students who are in a pre-medical or related health care professional program at Dordt College. Special consideration will be given to applicants who show strong aptitude and motivation for service in medicine, dentistry and optometry. Recipients must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA and must be continuing students entering their junior or senior year.

Daniel Oosterman Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by family and friends of Daniel Oosterman, who was a pre-veterinary program student at Dordt College. In May 2002 after completing his freshman year, Daniel's earthly life was ended in an automobile accident as he traveled to his home in Oakdale, California. Students who are in the Dordt College pre-veterinary program are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Darrel and Mary Kraayenbrink Pre-veterinary Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by Darrel and Mary Kraayenbrink. Students entering their junior or senior year who are in the Dordt College pre-veterinary program are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Preference will be given to students from South Dakota.

Dieleman Pre-Professional Health Programs Scholarships

Several Pre-Professional Health Programs Scholarships are funded by Ed and Joyce Dieleman. The scholarship selection committee will give first preference to pre-pharmacy program applicants. However pre-dental, pre-optometry, pre-medical, pre-occupational therapy and pre-physical therapy program students are also encouraged to apply. Freshmen, sophomores, or juniors may apply. A previous recipient may reapply and will be considered equally with other eligible applicants.

Henry and Myrna Koldenhoven Health Sciences Scholarship

In honor of Henry and Myrna Koldenhoven, Dr. Gregg A. Koldenhoven, M.D. and Sheila (Koldenhoven) Lammers established this scholarship to award an upperclassman who has been accepted in one of the following programs at Dordt College. Pre-Medical, Pre-Physician's Assistant, Nursing, Pre-Physical Therapy, Pre-Dental, Pre-Optometry, or other health-related sciences. Criteria used for determining the recipient will include leadership, Christian character, and a commitment to the health profession they have chosen for their field of study. First and equal preference will be given to students in Pre-Med, Pre-Physician's Assistant and the Nursing programs, followed by all other health related sciences. Previous applicants may reapply for this scholarship and will be considered equally with other eligible applicants.

Minnie j. dahm natural science scholarship

All pre-medical students or those pursuing a degree in the life sciences are eligible to apply for this scholarship, but preference will be given to sophomore applicants. Recipients must have a minimum 3.00 cumulative grade point average and must demonstrate an understanding and application of Christian principles in the area of medicine.

Talsma Memorial Pre-medical Scholarship

Mrs. Amelia Talsma, from Hawarden, Iowa bequeathed funds to establish two Dordt College scholarships for sophomore or junior pre-medical students with a 3.50 cumulative GPA. A recipient may reapply and receive this scholarship for more than one year.

Pre-Seminary/Youth Ministries


Chris E. Haan Memorial Scholarship for Pre-seminary Students

These scholarships are available for pre-seminary program students who have a 3.00 cumulative GPA. These scholarships can be renewed provided the recipient remains in good standing in the pre-seminary program.

Dieleman Pre-seminary Student Scholarships

This scholarship is funded by Ed and Joyce Dieleman. Recipients must be members of the Dordt College Pre-seminary Program and must be endorsed by the program's faculty members. Continuing students from all class levels may apply for these scholarships.

James Albert Klaver Memorial Scholarship

Friends and family of James Albert Klaver funded this scholarship program in his memory. James graduated from Dordt College in 2003 and soon after lost his struggle with cancer. This scholarship is available for students majoring in theology with a youth ministries emphasis. A cumulative 3.00 GPA is required.

Social Work


Brian and barbara mellema social work scholarship

Brian and Barbara Mellema have created this scholarship for an upperclassman majoring in social work. Applicants must be in good academic standing and be at fulltime status at Dordt College.

Dordt College Social Work Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded annually to a social work major. Recipients are selected on the basis of grade point average, financial need, general academic interest, and commitment to the field of social work. The recipient must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA.

Ken Venhuizen Social Work Scholarship

This scholarship was funded in the recognition of services and contributions made by Ken Venhuizen to the Dordt College Social Work Department. Any sophomore or junior social work major who has a minimum 3.00 cumulative grade point average and been accepted into the social work program is eligible and encouraged to apply.

Worship Arts


Cheryl De Bruin-Vande Haar Worship Arts Scholarship

This scholarship was funded by Michael Vande Haar for applicants who attended Oskaloosa, IA Christian School, Oskaloosa, IA Community School, or Pella Christian High School. Upperclassmen in good academics standing who are full time students and are majoring or minoring in worship arts may apply. This scholarship is not automatically renewable; however a recipient may reapply and will be equally considered with other applicants for one additional year.

Dahm Worship Arts Scholarship

Jeffrey and Sharon Dahm have funded this scholarship for students minoring in worship arts. Recipients must be full time students in good academic standing. This scholarship is available to a student during their sophomore, junior or senior year. Recipients may receive this scholarship for more than one year.
