While internships are not required, roughly 90 percent of our students participate in an internship. In fact, the business department averages over 65 internships per year. Students may participate in a variety of local internships, in internships throughout the U.S., or in international internships. The Chicago Semester Program, the European Studies Program (SPICE), and our spring internship in Nicaragua are just some options.
Other recent internship sites include: Sioux Falls, Los Angeles, Chicago, Des Moines, and Seattle, with companies such as Citibank, Strong Retirement Plan Services, Pella Windows, and a variety of other firms.
Internship areas include accounting, finance, human resources, information systems, international business, marketing, management, and sales.
Our interns have handled an enormous variety of tasks and projects, including preparing income tax returns, arranging press releases, conducting employee surveys, working with payroll, developing marketing questionnaires, managing small work crews, and cataloging museum items, to name a very small sample.
The vast majority of employers over the years have formally evaluated their Dordt College interns as excellent workers. But don't take our word for it. Read what former employers have to say:
"[Our Dordt intern] had the opportunity to work with a future building project and the financing of it. He wrote and then re-wrote proposals dozens of times. He did an outstanding job with the project. Most times I was able to take his proposal as written and present it. That's incredible."
Mr. Richard Jenson, Executive Director
Sioux Falls Soccer Association
"The knowledge that Dordt provides its students with is strong in [this intern]. He is a great young man and has a bright future ahead. He was a pleasure to work with."
Mr. Ryan Crawford, Recruiting Specialist and Franchise Consultant
Pizza Ranch Corporate Office
Dordt College believes so strongly in the value of internships that we dedicate a large portion of one faculty member's time to internship placement and supervision. This, along with good students and helpful assistance from Dordt's Career Development Center, has led to a long-term business and accounting job placement rate above 95 percent for Dordt graduates with degrees in these fields.
