Blending rigorous engineering coursework with a specialized focus on construction and civil disciplines, the construction engineering concentration not only prepares students for designing and managing detailed construction projects but, as part of our ABET-accredited engineering program, positions them for professional engineering licensure. As part of our ABET-accredited engineering program, the construction engineering concentration offers rigorous coursework in math, science, and engineering analysis. With a focus on integrating design and construction, construction engineering at Dordt prepares students for complex problem-solving and opens the door to professional engineering licensure. It's an ideal choice for students eager to combine analytical expertise with hands-on involvement in construction projects.

What You Can Do With A Construction Engineering Concentration

When it comes to construction engineering, you can choose from a variety of different career options such as the ones listed below. Whatever you choose to do, with your identity firmly rooted in Christ, you’ll be equipped to live out your faith every day.

Structural Designer

A structural designer creates and evaluates designs for buildings, bridges, and other structures, ensuring they are safe, stable, and efficient.

Construction Field Engineer

A construction field engineer manages on-site technical tasks, including interpreting blueprints, overseeing construction activities, and ensuring projects meet design and safety standards.

Project Engineer

A project engineer oversees and coordinates technical aspects of engineering projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and according to specifications.

Career Preparation

Dordt University's 2025 Career Outcome Rate was 99.7%! “I believe it is also, in part, indicative of the type of graduates we are encouraging our students to become—that is, graduates who don’t just learn for the sake of learning, but graduates who continue to learn for the sake of serving," said Dr. Ethan Brue, dean for technology and applied sciences. Students who choose the construction engineering concentration will complete all the foundational general engineering, civil engineering, and construction management courses, along with elective or advanced coursework in civil engineering, construction management, engineering technology, and business.
