Program Overview

Designed for educators of all types, the M.Ed. program will help you take your classroom and leadership abilities to the next level with immediately applicable skills and resources relevant to your specific challenges. Equipping you with relevant knowledge and perspectives in your chosen specialization, you will be able to confidently enhance your classroom or administrative work.

The program can be completed in two years. A typical plan of study includes one course every fall semester and spring semester and three courses every summer for two full years. A slower pace can reduce summer work to two courses in each of three summers. The School Leadership and Teacher Leadership specializations offer an accelerated option that can be finished in as little as 14 months. All of our courses are 100% online. No travel or on-campus residency is required.

Licensure

Dordt's M.Ed. program concentration in School Leadership has been approved by the Iowa Department of Education. Six semester hours of this program meet the requirements to convert an initial license to a Standard license within the State of Iowa. All program tracks also meet the master's degree requirement for the Master Educator License.

The School Leadership track leads to the Initial Administrator license in the State of Iowa. The Initial Administrator license also transfers easily to many other states.

Accreditation

The Dordt University Master of Education program is approved by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the Iowa Department of Education.

  • A completed application for program admission.
  • A transcript of all undergraduate and graduate credit received.

Students can transfer a total of nine semester hours of graduate work with a minimum of a B grade. All nine semester hours can come from any ARCU* institution. A maximum of six semester hours may come from non-ARCU colleges, but the last three hours must come from an ARCU institution.
