I joined the Dordt faculty in 1983. My doctoral work was in experimental condensed matter physics. I taught Introductory Physics, Modern Physics/Quantum Mechanics, Classical Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, and Perspectives in Physical Science and served as the chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy. While I was trained in experimental condensed matter physics, my current research interests includes physics pedgogy with an emphasis on lab methods.. In the past I have served as a NASA Summer Faculty Fellow and a science education consultant. I am the past president of the Iowa Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers and have served as the Iowa representative on the national council of the American Association of Physics Teachers. I retired from teaching in 2019.
