With Dordt University since 2001, David Versluis taught design and art courses in the Department of Art and Design and directed the Campus Center Art Gallery. Versluis retired in 2019, but continues to serve as curator of the Dordt University Permanent Art Collection. Versluis's significant contributions in displaying visual art on Dordt's campus were recognized when he received the 2019 Noteworthy Scholarship award.
Professor Versluis has presented papers on graphic design at various national conferences, including the biennial CIVA (Christians in the Visual Arts) conference. Many of his students have received recognition for their design work with regional non-profit clients and have gone on to become graphic design professionals. Several of his students have produced award-winning projects in student design competitions on the state and Midwest regional levels.
During the 2012 spring semester, Versluis completed a sabbatical while working at Thirst / 3st, a leading-edge design studio in Chicago.
Versluis practices graphic design on selected projects and is actively producing prints and sculpture. He participates in solo and curated exhibitions, both nationally and regionally; one of his works was chosen recently to be included in the forthcoming curated exhibition, Threads of Truth at the Zhou B Art Center, Chicago, January and Febuary 2020.
He is a member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) and Christians in the Visual Arts (CIVA).
