Shelbi Gesch

English Assistant Adjunct

Shelbi Gesch is an Assistant Adjunct instructor in the English department. Ending a “twenty-year hiatus” after completing her first two years at Dordt, she returned to complete her Bachelor of Arts in English, Writing and graduated in 2017. She earned her Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing with a Creative Nonfiction emphasis and a concentration in teaching from Augsburg University in Minneapolis.

She lives in Colton, South Dakota (just north of Sioux Falls) with her husband and three children, two of whom are third generation Dordt students. She is passionate about reading, writing (in particular, nature writing and memoir), and Christian education, and she is overjoyed to join in the work of equipping students for Kingdom work as an instructor at Dordt.

Her work has been published in The Banner, Pro Rege, In All Things, the online journal Fathom, and Reformed Journal. She enjoys writing on Midwestern life, finding the fingerprints of God in everyday experiences, and working through contemporary issues through her essays.
