Dr. Mary Dengler

Emeritus Professor of English

As Professor of English, Co-Dir. of the Kuyper Scholars Program, and Editor of Pro Rege, I enjoy discussing and researching all aspects of literature and writing. My specialties include 19th-century, Victorian, & modern British literature, particularly the work of George Eliot and Virginia Woolf; modern & contemporary American literature; women's literature; literary criticism; world literature; and Rhetoric. I also love working with Kuyper Scholars and writing poetry.

I earned a B.A. and an M.A.T. in English at Calvin College, then an M.A. and Ph.D. in English at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. My dissertation, "George Eliot: Beyond Feminism," traces Eliot's development beyond feminism toward a messianic vision for man and woman as one.

I have taught English and Writing at the following institutions: Dordt College; Calvin College; University of Nevada, Las Vegas. ; Chattanooga Christian School, Chattanooga, TN; Faith Lutheran School,Las Vegas, NV; Bradenton Christian School, Bradenton, FL; and Evangelical Christian School, Memphis, TN.
