I joined the Education Department faculty in 2005 and retired from fulltime teaching in May, 2021. I previously taught future teachers in the Education Department at Northwestern College in Orange City for 13 years. Prior to that I taught grades 3 and 4 at Inwood (Iowa) Christian and Orange City (Iowa) Christian schools for 12 years.

I am a 1980 graduate of Dordt and have attended many colleges and universities since then. I earned my Master of Education degree in elementary education at the University of Sioux Falls (1987) and my Doctor of Education at the University of Northern Iowa (1999), specializing in curriculum and instruction.

I teach several courses in the Education Department: EDUC 201 Planning, Instruction, & Assessment; EDUC 331 Social Studies Methods, EDUC 155 Literature for Children & Adolescents, EDUC 300/CORE 310 History and Philosophy of Education, EDUC 381/382 Student Teaching Seminars. I also teach EDUC 506 in two tracks of our Master's in Education program. In addition to my teaching I serve as the director of student teaching and the field experiences.

I live in Orange City with my wife, Kim, who teaches preschool at Orange City Christian (Covenant Kids Preschool).
