Step 1: Obtain approval from your college/university for a semester on an off-campus program:

  • Dordt students: Complete the items assigned to you on Canvas for off-campus internal approval. All items must be submitted by April 1. Please contact Rebecca Tervo (CA 133) if you have any questions.
  • Students from other colleges/universities: Visit your Off-Campus Studies Office or Registrar's Office to request approval for a semester on SPICE.
    • Official transcript: Request an official transcript from your Registrar's Office to be sent to:

Step 2: Complete all SPICE application materials. All application materials are due by August 31.

  • SPICE application: Preview the application, collect the required information, write your essay answers, then complete and submit the application online.
  • $50 application fee, payable to Dordt University SPICE.
  • Recommendation form: Please complete the top portion of the form, and send recommendation forms to three people:
  1. Faculty Recommendation
  2. Faculty Recommendation
  3. Personal Recommendation - Someone not related to you who knows you on a more personal level, such as a student services staff member, an employer, or a pastor.
  • Housing form: Complete and submit this form online (this form is due with the application materials so that the process of selecting host families can begin immediately after students are accepted).

Step 3: Interview with VIAA Representatives in late September and attend mandatory SPICE informational session.

If you are accepted into the program following your interview, you will have one week to submit a $350 nonrefundable deposit to the Dordt Business Office. This deposit will hold your place on the program and will be credited toward the total cost of the program should you participate.
