BLOCK ASSIGNMENTS.
1. Four and five hour courses--the test will be given during the test
period that the first class period indicates; e.g., a course which meets
in periods at 8:00 MTThF would use Block 11, or from 2:00-3:15 on MW would use
block 17.
2. Examinations for evening courses shall be scheduled in the regularly
scheduled class time during the final examination week. Exceptions
to this, e.g., Thursday evening classes, shall be approved by the registrar.
3. Graduate courses have no additional test schedule. If a test is to
be given, it will have to be scheduled for a regular class period.
Exam Block Guide: Use this table to convert your class time to an exam
block. For example, a class meeting at 8:00-9:15 on Tuesdays & Thursdays
would use exam block 21 (8:00-10:00 on Tuesday, December 18).

3.4.2 SCHEDULING OF TESTS
1. Instructors shall notify students at least one
week in advance of major tests. It is advisable to include the schedule of tests
for a course in the course syllabus and to distribute the syllabus at the
beginning of a course.
2. Tests for the entire class shall be scheduled
and administered only during the regularly scheduled class times.
3. Faculty shall not ordinarily schedule tests on
Mondays, except for courses or labs that meet only on Mondays.
4. Assessment in the form of daily assignments,
papers, projects, quizzes, and/or tests given early in the semester provide
students with timely feedback regarding their progress. This is especially
important in freshmen courses.
5. A minimum of three major forms of evaluation
(tests, papers, major presentations, etc.) shall be given during the semester
(this includes the examination given during the final examination week).
6. Examinations, test, or major quizzes shall not
be administered during the last week of classes, the week prior to the week of
final examinations. Papers and major projects may not be due
during the last week of classes, except in courses where no final exam is given.
Weekly or daily quizzes, assignments, and papers that are consistent with the
regular practice of a course may be scheduled during the last week of classes.*
* This policy is intended to reflect a need for a
"quiet last week of classes" that allows students to prepare for exams.
Documentation by departments of peer awareness and agreement on exceptions
should provide a transparent environment reflecting our common goal.
Documentation may be reviewed by the division dean, the registrar, and the vice
president for academic affairs.
3.4.3 FINAL EXAMINATION
POLICIES
1. The final examination schedule is set by
policy.
2. Examinations for evening courses shall be
scheduled in the regularly scheduled class time during the final examination
week. Exceptions to this, e.g., Thursday evening classes, shall be approved by
the registrar.
3. Final examinations in the form of take-home
examinations shall be due during the exam period scheduled for that course. They
are to be given to the students no earlier than one week prior to the exam
period.
4. Exceptions to these policies are to be
reviewed at the departmental level and recorded in the department minutes.
5. Exceptions to the examination schedule may be granted for individual students
by the registrar in extraordinary circumstances. However, three exams in one
day will not be considered extraordinary.
