Advancement Office Mission Statement

The mission statement of the college, "The Educational Task of Dordt College," sets forth the principles that define the purpose of the college and direct the work and goals of the institution:

The educational task of Dordt College is to be understood as a calling whereby the Lord summons committed and insightful men and women to educational service. The administrators and support staff participate in the educational task of the college as well. They are to construct and maintain the context within which the educational work of the college can grow and prosper.

The office of college advancement is one of the administrative departments of the college whose primary responsibility, as defined in the statement of purpose, is to "construct and maintain the context" within which the educational work of the college can grow and prosper.

We understand our work within the office of college advancement to be a calling to facilitate and formulate supportive relationships between the college and its constituents.

The purpose of Dordt College, as an institution that belongs to God, is to serve Christ through biblically obedient educational service to his kingdom. Constituents are co-workers in this service, with a specific calling or office crucial to the existence of the college.

Dordt College can exist only if it has a constituency that seeks its educational services and supports the institution through prayers, gifts and other support. God blesses the work of the college through constituents who use the services of the college and who support the college.

Facilitating and formulating mutually supportive relationships with constituents takes place, first of all, when the entire college community shares in this responsibility. The impressions and attitudes of our constituents about the college are formulated by everything they have ever seen, heard, read and experienced with the college, including its students, teachers, alumni, staff, board members and other constituents. The office of college advancement has the unique task of planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising formal activities and programs that promote and encourage supportive relationships between the college and its constituency. This is done as follows:

by formal printed and verbal communication with current and potential constituents.
through formal, organized fund-raising activities.
through programs and activities that bring constituents to campus to witness and participate in the work of the college community.
by facilitating and encouraging personal relationships between constituents and members of the college community, including students.
by giving leadership to the formulation of a culture within the college community that values the importance of good relations with our constituency.
by the professional supervision of various factors and elements that make up our institutional image.
by educating and inspiring our constituency regarding the value and importance of Dordt's vision for Christian higher education.

In carrying out the above tasks and activities, office of college advancement staff members shall attest to the following:

that we are committed to the Reformed faith and Christian education.
that we agree with and support "The Educational Task of Dordt College" and that we will perform our tasks in harmony with that mission statement.
that we must at all times be faithful to biblical norms of honesty and integrity in our work.
that our constituents are God's people and our friends and must be treated respectfully.
that we prayerfully rely on God's grace to bless our efforts.
that we serve to assist and challenge our constituents in good stewardship of their God-given resources.
that we will operate in an efficient manner, always conscious of the need to be careful stewards of college resources.
that in all things we give praise and honor to God for what he is accomplishing through the college, including our work and activities.
