Ag department receives grant to open summer program to high school teachers

Dr. Robb De Haan recently received word from the North Central Region Sustainable Research and Education (SARE) grant program that his proposal titled "Teaching Tomorrow's Leaders in Sustainable Agriculture" has been funded.

The proposal notes that while agriculture leaders begin their agriculture education in high school, teachers have little opportunity to learn from innovative farmers in the region.

The proposed summer course, to be offered at Dordt College, will be open to teachers as well as college students. It will help high school teachers develop materials, courses, and curriculum in sustainable agriculture. SARE and the Dordt College agriculture department want to alert high school teachers to alternative integrated and environmentally sound food systems. Their ultimate goal is to improve the economic, environmental, and social health of family farmers.
