Wealth and Christianity the topic of lectures

March 1, 2004

The economic implications of following Christ will be discussed by guest speaker John R. Schneider, in a pair of lectures on Monday, March 8, at the Dordt College Science and Technology Center in lecture hall S 101.

Schneider is professor of religion and theology at Calvin College and the author of three books on the topic of Christianity and wealth. His most recent, “The Good of Affluence: Seeking God in a Culture of Wealth,” explains how Christians with a Godly vision can live with integrity and humility in a capitalist society. Schneider details how affluent Christians can properly achieve a God-centered, not self-centered lifestyle.

The topic of Schneider’s 3:30 p.m. lecture is “Are Christians who take part in the Culture of Capitalism committing Mass Murder?” The topic of the 7:30 p.m. lecture is “Luke’s Narrative of Christ and the Transformation of Modern Economic Culture.”

Both lectures are free and open to the public.
