Bands to play Feb. 28

Three bands will share the stage at the B.J. Haan Auditorium in Sioux Center on Saturday, Feb. 28, in a concert that offers something for everyone.

The 7:30 p.m. concert features Dordt College’s campus-community band, directed by Julie Hulstein; the concert band, directed by Henry Duitman; and the jazz band, directed by Norman Gaines.

The Dordt College Campus-Community Band will present “Liberty Bell” by Sousa, followed by “Procession of the Nobles,” by Rimsky-Korsakov, and “Overture to Candide” by Bernstein.

The Dordt College Concert Band will perform “Overture in C” by Catel; “Children's March” by Grainger; and “Festivo” by Gregson. Also on their program will be “Concerto for Two Trumpets” by Vivaldi, featuring soloists David Hjelle and Jenae Vander Wal. A student conductor, Amanda Jasper, will direct the band in “The Last Spring” by Grieg.

The Dordt College Jazz Band picks up the pace with “Livin’ La Vida Loca,” followed by “The Nearness of You,” “Do Nothin’ Till You Hear From Me” and “Chicago.”

There is no admission charge for the concert, but a freewill offering to benefit music scholarships will be received.
