Senior recitals Feb. 21

A pair of Dordt College students will present their senior recitals on Saturday, Feb. 21, 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.

Liz McPherson of Lincoln, Nebraska, is a vocalist, while Amanda (Branderhorst) Jasper from Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, will perform on the clarinet. Also participating in the recital will be Sarah Buteyn, flute; Shirley Buist and Josh Super, clarinet; and Jason Wyenberg, bass clarinet.

In the vocal portion of the recital, McPherson will present a Buxtehude piece accompanied by flute, along with Spanish folk songs and a sampling of Gershwin arrangements. McPherson’s voice instructor is Pam DeHaan. McPherson has been a soloist with the Dordt College Concert Choir and been awarded first and second place honors in National Association of Teachers of Singing regional competitions.

McPherson is majoring in English literature and secondary education, with a minor in vocal performance. She is the daughter of Scott and Marilee McPherson, Lincoln, Neb.

Amanda Jasper is a music education major under the instruction of Karen De Mol. She will present a Hindemith Sonata, followed with a bouncing theme and variations waltz and a jazz ragtime clarinet trio.

Jasper is married to Chad Jasper and is the daughter of Sue and Scott Branderhorst.

This recital is open to the public, with a free reception following the performance.
