String festival performance Feb. 19

Nearly 150 string students from four high schools and Dordt College will participate in the bi-annual Dordt College String Festival on Thursday, Feb 19. The afternoon and evening event will include massed orchestra rehearsals, sectionals, and an evening concert that begins at 7:30 in B.J. Haan Auditorium on the campus of Dordt College. The concert is free and open to the public.

Participating schools and directors are: Orange City Unity Christian High School, director Melody DeWit; LeMars Community High School, director Ted Hallberg; Hull Western Christian High School, Lyle Van Ravenswaay; Sioux City East High School, Eleanor May-Patterson.

The Dordt College Chamber Orchestra will host the event. Both the college orchestra and the massed orchestra will perform under the direction of Henry Duitman.

During the concert each school will perform individually, followed by the massed orchestra’s three selections. They are “Ancient Ritual” by Del Borgo, “Adoration” by Borowski, and “Psalm and Jubilation” by Iowa composer, Tracey Rush.
