Stronks is ’04 Distinguished Alumna

Julie StronksJulie Stronks has been named the 2004 Distinguished Alumna at Dordt College. She will be the featured speaker at the annual Alumni Banquet, to be held Friday, Feb. 20, 6 p.m. at the Dordt College Campus Center.

Stronks will speak on the topic, “The greatest thing Dordt gave me and how I almost lost it.” She is a 1982 graduate of Dordt College, with a degree in political science. Stronks attended law school at the University of Iowa and practiced law for several years before returning to school to complete her doctorate in political science. She is married to a Dordt alumnus, Charles Zandbergen, Class of 1980. The couple has a 13-year-old son, Matthew.

A professor of political studies at Whitworth College in Spokane for the past 10 years, Stronks’ teaching and research focus on the relationship between faith and public policy. She directs the college’s initiative to serve poor and homeless youth in Spokane, as well as Lives of Commitment, a program that helps students make connections between faith and vocation.

Stronks will also be the featured speaker at a Dordt College chapel service on Thursday, Feb. 19, 11 a.m., and will attend a Political Science Department reception at the Humble Bean, located on the lower level of the Campus Center, on Friday, Feb. 20, 6 p.m.
