Glover to speak on electric power grid

January 20, 2004

The challenges and options for management of electrical resources in the Midwest will be discussed at an open meeting Monday, Jan. 26, 7 p.m. at the Dordt College Campus Center, meeting room CA319. The presentation will be of special interest to practicing engineers and students in engineering, business and public policy studies. There is no cost to attend.

Brian Glover, senior engineer at MAPPCOR (the administration agency for Mid-Continent Area Power Pool, the power grid provider for Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Iowa, and Wisconsin, and two provinces in Canada) will be the speaker.

An alumnus of Dordt College’s Engineering program, Glover has titled his talk “Trends in Electricity Grid Operations and Regulation.” He will discuss current issues in light of changing economic, political and public policies and how they relate to the upper Midwest regional bulk power system. Feasible options for future growth and management of the electrical grid and possible trade-offs will also be discussed.

This meeting is being held in conjunction with a Siouxland chapter conference of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). In case of inclement weather, see for a cancellation notice.
