December 22, 2003

The Dordt College Chamber Orchestra and the Jazz Band will perform in concert on Friday, Jan. 16, 7:30 p.m., at B. J. Haan Auditorium, Sioux Center, Iowa.

This performance will conclude the ensembles’ 2004 winter tour swing through Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan.

Under the direction of Professor Henry Duitman, the 30 member Dordt College Chamber Orchestra will perform works from the Baroque, Romantic, and 20th Century style periods. The program will include Bach’s “Orchestral Suite No. 2” with sophomore Ruth Lynch as flute soloist, beautiful hymn arrangements by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and the delightful “Overture on Hebrew Themes” by Serge Prokofiev with featured clarinet soloist, senior Amanda Jasper. Also on the program will be the popular Irish tune, “The Lord of the Dance.”

The 20 member Dordt College Jazz Band, under the direction of Norman Gaines, has selected several big band selections for the second half of the concert. The songs “Georgia” and “You Do Something to Me,” will feature vocal soloist Rachel Persenaire.

Admission to the concert is free, with a free-will donation received to help defray tour expenses.
