April 29, 2014

Dordt College seniors Cait Vaags and Kathryn Van Groningen are presenting their senior art exhibit, with works in the Dordt College Campus Art Gallery through May 3. A reception will be held on Saturday, May 3 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., with gallery talks at 6.

“My art is meant to draw people deeper into the amazing world in which we live. Looking at nature is one of the most enjoyable things in my life,” said Vaags who has traveled to France, Nicaragua, Mexico, as well the U.S. and Canada. “I have been blessed to see so much, and I want people to enjoy the scenery of life as well. These paintings are a tribute to our amazing God, who created all things,” said Vaags.

Vaags is from Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada, and is majoring in art with an emphasis in graphic design and communication.

“I see art as an avenue that enables a person to express his or her creative ability by crafting something. Art comes in many mediums not exclusive to paint, pencil, pen, print, photography, or three-dimensional creations,” said Van Groningen. “Art is designed by using a combination of one’s imagination, inspiration from one’s surroundings, an emotion needing expression, or a need to communicate an idea.”

Van Groningen is from Ripon, California, and is a majoring in art with an emphasis in fine arts studio.
