Open house Aug. 14, 15
August 6, 2003Dordt College’s new Alumni Guest House will open its doors to the public and Dordt community for self-guided tours and refreshments on Thursday, Aug. 14. Hours for Thursday’s open house are 4-8 p.m., while Dordt employees will have a second opportunity to tour the facility on Friday, Aug. 15, from 9:30-11 a.m.
Located on the southwest corner of Dordt’s campus at 411 Fifth St. NE, the alumni guest house is expected to serve several important functions. Primarily, it will serve as a place for alumni to “come home to” and revisit an important period in their lives. Alumni will have the opportunity to plan mini-reunions with college friends and roommates, to attend Dordt College events and see for themselves how Dordt College has changed and grown in recent years. There will be a modest nightly fee charged for overnight stays, with a sliding fee scale ranging from one bedroom for one night to renting the entire house for a maximum of three days.
The house is also expected to serve as an important student recruitment tool, providing prospective students and their families with an attractive place to stay free for up to two nights while visiting the Dordt College campus. Guest speakers on campus will also have the opportunity to stay at the alumni house, and a large great room, sun room and formal dining room will be available to the campus community for committee meetings by advance reservation.
The house has three guest bedrooms: a main floor master bedroom/bath suite and two upper level guest rooms that share a bath. The basement has been renovated into an apartment for the host and hostess, Leann and Lance Nunnikhoven, who will be available to welcome guests and keep the house ready for guests.
Since becoming available in July, several families have already used the facility. Items are still being solicited for the “Heritage Room,” which will be filled with Dordt memorabilia. If you have an item you would be willing to contribute, contact Judy Hagey at 722-6028.
More information regarding rates and reservations will be available at the open house, or you may contact the Director of Alumni and Church Relations, Judy Hagey, at 722-6028.
