LAST TIME…Midland was a sweep winner over Nebraska Wesleyan 11-6 and 8-5 on April 8 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Dordt lost a pair of games to Northwestern that same night by scores of 8-1 and 8-0.

The Red Raiders manufactured three early runs to get out to a quick advantage in game one.

Northwestern tagged starting pitcher Haley Fligge for a run in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Alex Price.

In the second inning, Jordan Biehle came home to score on a grounder to the shortstop. Two batters later, Jill Kleinhesselink drove in another run on an infield single, making it 3-0.

Dordt managed to scrape together a run in the fourth inning after Kassidy Van Voorst tripled to lead off the frame. She scored Dordt’s lone run one at-bat later on a throwing error by pitcher Keely Bracelin.

Northwestern used the longball to extend the lead late. Alex Price launched a two-run home run in the fifth inning to make it 5-1, and Lindsey Remien clocked a three-run shot in the seventh to make it 8-1, the eventual final score.

Dordt managed just three hits off Bracelin, who won her seventh game of the season. Northwestern collected 11 hits off Fligge.

After a quick first three innings, Northwestern pounded out eight runs in the fourth and fifth to “8-run rule” the Defenders in five innings.

The 8-0 victory for the Red Raiders was highlighted by a five-run fourth inning in which the club batted around.
The game’s first run came via error when Northwestern’s Alex Price bolted home during a steal attempt by teammate Kourtni Robinson. The throw to the plate from second base skipped over catcher Erica Hughes’ head, allowing the run to score. Lindsey Remien drove in another run during the same at-bat with an RBI groundout to third base.

Northwestern went on to load the bases in the same inning and benefited from another Dordt error. Right fielder Selena Rinehart could not handle a fly ball off the bat of Jill Kleinhesselink, and three runs came across for the Raiders.

Another misplayed fly ball led to three more Northwestern runs in the fifth inning. Remien reached on a dropped fly ball by Kassidy Van Voorst, extending the inning for Jordan Biehle. She drove in two runs with an RBI double, then came in to score on a throwing error one at-bat later.

Dordt could not push a run across to extend the game in the bottom half of the fifth. The Defenders recorded only two hits off left-handed pitcher Katie VandeVoort, who moved to 8-3 this season.

Northwestern only managed five hits, but benefited from four Dordt errors.

THE SERIES… Midland leads the series 28-11 with the most recent meeting happening on April 13, 2013.

Midland scored five runs over the first four innings and limited the Dordt Defender softball team to two runs in the sixth inning on the way to a 5-2 win over Dordt in game one of the doubleheader in Fremont.

The Defenders gave up two in the first and one each in the second, third and fourth innings. Dordt scored a pair in the sixth after stranding two in the fifth. Brittany Kooiker doubled in two runs in the sixth for Dordt's offense.

Kooiker took the loss after allowing six hits. Sammy Hislop struck out 12 to record the win and limited the Defenders to three hits.

Kooiker, Sadie Bolze and Sidney Larsen had Dordt's hits.

A six run seventh inning blew open a tight contest and triggered Midland to an 8-0 win over the Defenders in game two of the GPAC doubleheader.

Dordt's Sidney Larsen sidestepped significant trouble early when she allowed one run on three hits in the second and was charged with an unearned run in the fourth as two Dordt errors led to a second run.

Midland broke through for six runs on five hits in the seventh to make it 8-0 and Dordt was unable to get a threat together in the bottom of the inning.

Dordt was the home team as the game was originally scheduled to be played in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Ashley Van Kooten had a double while Ashton Beaird and Sidney Larsen both had singles. Larsen took the loss while allowing eight runs with two strikeouts and a walk.
