Men's Golf Opens 2014 Monday

Meet… Dordt College will compete in the Mustang Charger Invite on Monday and Tuesday, March 31 and April 1 at Whispering Creek and Green Valley respectively.

Participants… Teams from Northwestern, Mount Marty, Morningside, Briar Cliff and Dordt will compete in the two-day event.

Last Time Out… The Dordt College Defenders recorded a 347 at GPAC Qualifier #2 in wet, cold and windy conditions Monday, October 14 at Firethorn Golf Course in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The Defenders finished tenth and were four shots out of seventh place. Dordt was led by Connor Rothert's 83 and Jon Holwerda had an 85. Madison Moss and Trey Hugen completed the Dordt foursome for scoring with an 89 and 90 respectively. Rothert is currently tied for 15th place with a two-round total of 161. Rothert's Monday score was good for 18th and Holwerda's put him in 27th.

Northwestern won the team title with a 317 and Doane was second with a 321. Hastings's Sean Backer shot a 74 to claim medialist honors on the par-71 course that was set up for 7,025 yards. Northwestern's Ryan Kiewit and Neil Malenke tied for second at 76.

Last Time On This Course… Dordt competed at Green Valley for GPAC #1 on Thursday, September 19, 2013.

The Defenders finished ninth on a day where tenth place and fifth place were separated by just ten strokes. Briar Cliff was just in front of the Defenders with a 316 and Dakota Wesleyan shot a 312 for seventh place.

Madison Moss had a 76 on the par 72, 7,061 yard course, and is in 15th after the first round. Connor Rothert shot a 78 and is in 24th place. Jon Holwerda had an 81 while Derek Fox and Nathan Middel scored 82s on a day where the medalists, Renen Sahr (Midland) and Jonas Christensen (Doane), shot a pair of 69s.

Dordt’s last time on Whispering Creek was at the Morningside Invite on Tuesday, October 8 and the Defenders placed fifth.

The Defenders shot a 344 in windy and warm conditions. Northwestern won the event with a 298 and Morningside was second with a 316.

Dordt was led by Micah Roos's 83 for 21st place and Madison Moss had an 84. Other scores recorded for the Defenders were Nathan Middel's 88 and Derek Fox had an 89.

At This Event… Dordt did not compete in this event last year as much of the spring season was wiped out by poor weather.

The Lineup… Dordt’s low man for the spring semester is Madison Moss with a 77.9 scoring average through eight rounds and Connor Rothert is right behind at 78.8 through eight rounds as well.  Micah Roos has lowered his scoring average to 80.3 in six rounds and Nate Middel has an 81.0 average in eight rounds played.  The competition for the top five spots will be very tight with Derek Fox at 81.4 while Trey Hugen and Rees Beeaver both have 82.0 averages.

After This… Dordt will next compete at the Northwestern Invite on Tuesday, April 8 at Landsmeer in Orange City, Iowa.
