Dordt Softball Faces Hastings Saturday

GAMETIME… Dordt is scheduled to travel to Hastings on Saturday, March 29 for a conference twinbill starting at 1:00.

SCOUTING REPORT…Hastings will be playing in its conference opener and the Broncos are 9-8 to start the season.  Hastings is 2-2 in its last four games and split with Ave Maria and Webber International in Florida on March 18 and 19. 

The Broncos have been outscored 76-70 but have outhit opponents 145-133.  Hastings has a team batting average of.303 and teams are batting .299 against it.  Jessica Finnegan has a .458 batting average in nine games played with 11 hits and four runs batted in.  Heather Sabata also has ten hits in nine games for a .357 batting average.  Chloe Boeka tops the team with 18 hits and 12 runs scored and has a .327 batting average.  Molly Mullervy has a .302 batting average and has 16 hits this season.

Taylor Erlenbusch is 6-3 with a 2.42 earned run average and has struck out 38 in 55 innings while McKenzie Welchert is 3-5 with a 5.10 earned run average and 18 strikeouts in 48 innings of work.

DEFENDER NOTES… Dordt is 4-16 this season and is coming off a sweep at the hands of Morningside.  The Defenders are batting .263 this season and opponents are batting .310 against them.  Dordt has been outhit 166-135 in 20 games.

Erica White is batting .348 with 23 hits, nine doubles, four homeruns and 18 runs batted in.  Ashton Beaird is batting .339 with 21 hits, six doubles and six homeruns with 13 runs batted in.  Kassidy Van Voorst leads the team with 14 stolen bases and she has 21 hits with a .323 batting average.

Samantha Dunn is 1-1 with a 5.40 earned run average in 18 1/3 innings of work.  Sidney Larsen is 3-8 in 10 starts and she has 28 strikeouts.  Haley Fligge has appeared in nine games and has 30 strikeouts.

LAST TIME…Hastings and Welchert was on the losing end of a 2-1 decision to Webber International on Wednesday, March 19 after scattering eight hits and striking out two with four walks issued.  Katie Hoehler had two hits and Marina Stickley had two.

THE SERIES…The Defenders trail the series with Hastings 18-14 and Hastings swept two from the Defenders on April 6 in Sioux Center.  The Defenders lost a 5-1 decision with Brittany Kooiker taking the loss and the other game was an 8-1 decision that Hastings broke open with six runs in the fourth inning.  Sidney Larsen struck out three and was tagged with three unearned runs in the loss.

NEXT…Hastings will host Bethany (Kansas) on March 30 and will travel to Midland for a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 2.

Dordt will host Mount Marty on Wednesday and Concordia on Friday of this coming week.
