Jessica McCarty and Kristen Raygor music recital February 28

February 20, 2014

Dordt College presents the music recital of Jessica McCarty of Riverside, California, and Kristen Raygor of Urbandale, Iowa, on Friday, February 28. Beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium, McCarty will perform on the flute and Raygor on the saxophone. A reception will follow.

McCarty will be accompanied by Norma Snyder Jones on piano. She will be joined by Dordt College junior Megan Ludens on flute to perform Franz Doppler’s Duettino for Two Flutes.

“Most of my musical selections come from the Romantic period, which makes them very lyrical and musically technical,” she says. McCarty is a student of Stephanie Kocher and Dordt College junior majoring in technical theatre.

Raygor will perform a wide range of music including classical etudes, a romantic tango, and a jazzy sonata. “The jazz piece will be interesting because I have to improvise parts of it,” she says.

A senior and clinical psychology major, Raygor takes saxophone lessons with Pam De Haan.

Of the 1,400 students who attend Dordt College, approximately 300 participate in the music program, which offers opportunities to perform in choral groups, orchestra, and band. Music scholarships are available to qualified students. Learn more about music opportunities available at
